' Specification of Lctters'latent.
PatentedApr. 13, 1915 Application filed Fovember'30, 1912. Serial No. 734,357.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DORSEY M. WIRTH,
'a citizen of the United States, residing at Bucyrus, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Gloves or Gauntlets,
of which the following is, a specification.
My invention relates to gloves and particularly to a gauntlet.
One object of the invention is to provide a constructionof somewhat contracted wrist in combination 'with elastic means to permit expansion at the wrist and close contact of the wrist with the wrist of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a construction whereby a relatively small elastic insert may be utilized, due to the shape and manner in which the insert is formed and secured.
Another object of the invention is to generally improve the construction of a gloye or gauntlet of this kind, and more specific objects will appear hereinafter fromthe description following taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In said drawings, the preferred embodiment is shown, and therein Figure l is a rear view of a glove constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a rear view of a gloveshowing the application of my invention in different form, and Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4. I
Like reference characters designate like or similar parts throughout the views of the drawings.
Referring specifically to the drawings, and first to Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, 1 designates the finger or hand covering portion of the glove and 2 designatesflthe wristband. The portions 1 and 2 are made of any suitable material and generally non-elastic material such as leather and cloth.
At the wrist, provided at the junction of the portions 1 and 2, is stitched, sewed or otherwise secured as at 3, an elastic insert band 4. This band as made by me is of knit fabric. Other elastic material may be used, as is obvious. I
The sections 1 and 2 from points 5 are gauntlet having a out along diverging lines as at 6. By means of this construction the elasticity of the entire band may be utilized as the expansion occurs from the points 5 to the position shown in the dotted lines.
It is to be noticed that portions 1 and 2 are considerably contracted at the band 4 so that when the hand is inserted, the band will effectively yield or expand and closely and effectively fit the wrist.
' In the form shown in Fig. 4, merely a diamond shaped insert 7 of elastic material is employed, in lieu of the band 4. In this form the elastic insert is partly stitched, sewed or otherwise secured as at 8, to the finger or hand receiving portion which may be designated 9, and partly to the wristband which may be designated 10. As shown in the drawings, the wristband in this form, is made separate from the remainder of the glove, but it is obvious and to be understood that the same may be integral with the remainder of the glove if desired.
In the case of this form of glove, the expansion or yielding occurs from the points 11 which are the equivalent of the points 5. Suchyielding occurs so that the parts will assume the position shown by the dotted lines, when in use.
As minor changes-in the details of conmember received within said opening and connected to the hand portion and wristband to permit expansion of the shaped portion of the glove as the hand is inserted" therethrough and to retract the hand and wristband portions to their normal relation upon the passing of the hand.
2. A glove having a hand-covering portion, a wristband portion constructed separately from the hand-covering portion, an elastic insert connecting said portions and holding the parts contracted on their proxidrawn over the hand and the parts thereof mate edges to fit the wrist, and said hand will again return to the normal position to ;portion and wristband portlon provided fit the wrist of the wearer.
