IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEY CLEANERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent NO. 51,835, dated January 2, 1866'.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FERDINAND IMHoRsT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lamp- Ghimney Cleaner; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a side elevation of this invention, showing its application to a chimney. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.

This invention relates to a lamp-chimney cleaner which is composed of two hinged jaws. One of these jaws is longer than the other and provided with a stationary hinged pad, whereas the pad attached to the other short jaw is movable and yielding, so that the same is enabled to accommodate itself to the shape of the bulb of a lamp-chimney.
A represents my cleaner, which is composed of two jaws, a b, made of wood or any other suitable material. These jaws are connected to each other by a suitable joint, and their handles are made to spread, so that by compressing said handles the jaws will open. A suitable spring has a tendency to keep the jaws closed. The jaw a is considerably longer than the jaw b, and to its outer end is attached a pad, o, made of felt or any other suitable material, which is glued or otherwise secured to the jaw, as shown in the drawings, so that the same is rigidly fastened thereto. The short jaw b is also provided with a pad, d but this pad is connected to the end of the jaw by a hingejoint or any other suitable means, so that it is free to adjust itself in any desired position, and its back is made of a thin piece of sheet-steel or other suitable elastic material, so that said pad is exible and free to accommodate itself to the shape of the bulbs of different chimneys.
In order to clean a lamp-chimney, my cleaner is introduced into the same, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and by turning the chimney in one and the cleaner in the opposite direction the operation of cleaning is eected in a few minutes. tlMy cleaner is cheap, durable, not liable to get out of order, and it adapts itself to chimneys of various different forms.
What I claim as new, andv desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The yielding self-adjusting pad d, in combination with the short jaw b of the cleaner A, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
M2. A lamp-chimney cleaner made as described, as a new article of manufacture.
