Description
(No Model.)
J. P. GILES. v BRUSH FOR WASHING ANDWIPING WINDOWS.
No.5o.2,ooo.- Patente'd.Ju1y26,*1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES P. GILES, OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
BRUSH FOR WASHING AND WIPING WINDOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 502,000, dated July 25, 1893. Application filed December 1, 1892. Serial'No. 453,791. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES P. GILES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Brush for the Washing and Wiping of,
Windows, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to render the washing and wiping of Windows easy and effective. These results I obtain by the union of a brush and wiper with an extensible handle so attached that the brush or wiper may be turned to stand at any angle desired.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
A is the brush part proper.
B is a block of wood covered with leather or rubber, or having on it a roll of leather or rubber for the purpose of rubbing the glass.
0. O is aspring arrangement, made of wire, one on each side of the wiper, for the purpose of holding a rag in place where it is desired to use one for washing or wiping the glass.
D is the handle.
E is a tube of tin or other metal moving up or down upon the handle for the purpose of lengthening or shortening the handle at pleasure.
F is a perforated cap of metal on the end of a tube through the perforations of which water may be drawn into the tube to be forced out against the window which is being cleansed by pushing the handle downward into the tube.
G. G. are cast or malleable iron, or other metal, fixtures for the purpose of holding the two parts of the window brush together and also for the purpose of receiving the end of the handle in such a manner that the brush upon the handle may be movable so as to stand at any desired angle.
H. H are two bands of spring steel or other metal between which the handle moves and which by catches or teeth, some distance apart on the inside of each band, hold the handle at whatever angle to the brush is deemed desirable.
Having described my invention, what I desire to claim, and for which I ask for Letters Patent, is
A brush for cleaning windows having two parts joined together one part a brush proper, the other a block covered with leather or rubber and having affixed on each side of it a spring arrangement for holding a rag, towel,
orsimilar article.
