UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
SEABURY F. BROWN, 0 cuYLER, NEW YORK.
BAG-HOLDER;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,820, dated July 18, 1893.
Application filed February 13, 1893- To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, SEABURY F. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ouyler, in the county of Cortland and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaihs to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bag-holders of that class or description in which a bag may be suspended and its mouth held open while being filled.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of same, whereby I secure important advantages with respect to simplicity and efficiency in operation.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bag-holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view.
In the said drawingsthe reference numeral 1 designates two uprights "or standards mounted upon the base pieces 2, and braced by the lower end cross-piece 3, and intermestandards are made cylindrical to receive the vertically sliding collars 5, provided with downwardly depending spring-arms 6, the free which engage with recesses 13 in the standards, and serve to retain said collars in any position to which they may be adjusted upon Serial No. 462,141. (No model.)
said standards. These collars are provided or formed with lugs 7 to which are pivoted arms 8, secured to a rim 9, provided with a series of hooks or prongs 10, to support the bag. This rim it will be seen is made of a single strip of metal with a curved front and straight back.
The operation is as follows: The collars 5 are adjusted upon the standards 1, according to the height of the bag to be filled, and are held in place thereon by means of the springarms 6, which press against said standards. The upper edge of the bag to be filled, is then engaged with the prongs 10, which will suspend the same and hold the mouth thereof distended, so that the'bag can be readily filled. When the bag has been filled, the edge thereof is disengaged from the hooks or prongs and the rim is then thrown upward and backward, turning upon the pivots of the arms 8, so as to be out of the way and allow the filled bag to be removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a bag-holder the combination with the standards having their upper ends made cylindrical, of the vertically movable collars provided with downwardly depending springarms bearing against said standards, the arms pivoted to said collars, and the rim to which said arms are secured, made ofa single piece of metal with curved front and straight back, and provided with prongs or hooks, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SEABURY F. BROWN.
