Description

(No Model.)
J H DOTY UMBRELLA TIE. No. 501,772.
Patentd Jul 18, 1893.
ATTORNEY.
To all whom it may concern.-
of the United States, residing in the city and UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. DOTY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
UMBRELLA-TIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,772, dated July 18, 1893.
Application filed January 5, 1893.
Be it known that I, JOHN H. DOTY, a citizen county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Umbrella-Ties, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a tie for an umbrella or parasol formed of an eye with clamps at the end thereof for attachment of the strap and loop of the tie, thus forming a simple, efficient, strong and durable device for the purpose intended.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the parts of an umbrella tie embodying my invention, said parts being separated. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the tie, the parts being connected. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section on line 00, as, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings; A designates an eye on .the ends of which are plates B, with lips C, C, said parts being preferably formed of sheet metal.
D designates a portion of the strap or piece of material designed to be passed around an Serial No. 457.319- (No model.)
umbrella, and E designates the end loop or piece which is to be grasped when connecting and disconnecting the eye with and from the button or stud on the umbrella. The lips project primarily from the plates at an angle, so that the strap and loop may be located on the respective plates as beds or rests, which being accomplished, the lips are bent down, whereby they clamp the strap and loop to the plates, and firmly connect the same with the eye.
In order to increase the holding power of the lips, there are punched or formed in the same, or in the plate B, or both, the spurs F which penetrate the strap and loop as shown in Fig. 3, the effect of which is evident.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An umbrella tie consisting of the outer loop E, an eye having plates with lips at opposite ends and the encircling piece D, the ends of said loop and piece being clamped by the respective plates and lips, said parts being combined substantially as described.
JOHN H. DOTY.
