HlTCHlNG-POST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led September 27, 1905. Serial No. 280,370.
T0 till whom 721; may concern: v
Be it known that I, WILEY HENDERSON LUQUIRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Birmingham, in the county of J efferson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitching-Posts and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hitching-posts, and comprises means whereby a hitching-strap may be fastened in various Ways without tying, and also comprises, in combination with a metallic post adapted to be driven into the ground, strap-engaging clamps which are fastened to the post at positions diametrically opposite and bent at their lower ends to form loops for engagement with rings, while their upper ends are yielding and designed to engage the hitching-strap after the same has been passed through the ring.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichigure l is a perspective view of my improved hitching-post, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the post.
Reference now being had lto the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a post, made, preferably, of metal and pointed at its lower end A and adapted to be driven into the ground. Fastened to the upper portion of said post at positions diametrically opposite are the two bars B, the lower ends of which are bent to form loops B for engagement with the rings C, while the upper ends of said bars (designated by letter D) are free and resilient and form yielding clamps. Bolts E are passed through said bars and also the post and are designed to hold the bars against the post, as shown clearly in the drawings.
In hitching a strap to the post the strap is first passed throughprings and then caught over and retained by one or the other of said spring resilient clamps D, thereby forming a means for securely holding the strap and without tying the same.
While I have shown a particular detailed form of apparatus illustrating my bitchingpost, it will be understood that I may vary the detailed construction of the same in different ways, if desired, without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hitchingepost, comprising a metallic shaft adapted to be driven into the ground, bars fastened at positions dianietrically opposite upon said shaft, with the upper portions of said bars forming resilient clamps, and rings fastened to the lower ends of said bars, as set forth. I
2. A bitching-post, comprising a metallic shaft, bars fastened to said shaft at positions diametrically opposite, the upper ends ofsaid bars forming resilient clamps and the lower ends of the bars bent to form loops, and rings engaged by said loops, as shown and described.
WILEY X HENDERSON LUQUIRE.
