WEAR-LOOP FOR NECK-YOKES.
Specification of Letters Iatent. Application filed December 11, 1911.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912. semi No. 664,969.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM a citizen of the United Kaw City, in the county of Kay and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVear-Loops for Neck-Yokes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wear-loops applicable to the ends of a neck yoke and has for its object to provide a durable device which will prevent the neck yoke fom wearing out the strap where it is looped around the end of the yoke.
lNhile the device is especially designed for use on the ends of a neck yoke it will be obvious that I am not confined to such use of the device, as it may be advantageously used in other relations.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, and which will be inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front showing the same neck yoke. Fig. 2
A. SHmLnR, States, residing at elevation of my device applied to one end of a is a bottom plan view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View of the U shaped bar.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the neck yoke which is provided near its end with two parallel spaced openings 2 adapted to receive the ends of the U shaped bar 3. Disposed between the intermediate portion of the bar and the neck yoke is the wear loop et which comprises a U shaped body 5 having side flanges 6 formed thereon which provide a channel for the reception of the hame strap 7. The ends of the flanges 6 on one side of the loop are curved outwardly as shown at 8 so as to prevent any sharp edges from coming in contact with the leather strap 7, and a keeper bar 9 is arranged across the ends of the flanges on the upper side of the loop to retain the strap 7 within the loop when in use. A keeper bar 10 is arranged across the intermediate portion of the loop, having its ends 11 extending beyond the outer faces of the flanges 6 and provided with the elongated openings 12 to receive the side portions of the bar 3 so as to allow the ends of the bar 10 to easily slide on the side portions of the bar 3. It will be seen that the wear loop 4 will be allowed to swing from side to side to give a direct pull should the animal at times spread to the outside or crowd the pole. The intermediate portion of the bar 3 is bent inwardly as indicated at 13 to prevent too much play of the loop 4: between the yoke and the bar. As the bottom 13 is only bent inwardly at a point about midway of the bar 10, the loop will be permitted to swing or rock from side to side, owing to the elongated openings 12 in the ends 11 of the bar 10. The side portions of the bar 3 are provided with the circular stops 14 to prevent the sides of the bar from passing into the neck yoke too far, the ends 11 of the bar 10 preventing the ends of the bar from being pulled entirely out of the yoke.
In putting the loop 4 on the end of the yoke, the ends of the bar 3 are inserted through the elongated openings 12 and the stops 14: are then secured on the side portions of the bar by soldering or other suitable means. The ends of the bar 3 are then inserted in the opening 2 in the yoke so that the loop 4 will straddle the yoke and the intermediate portion of the loop will be disposed between the intermediate portion of the bar 3 and the neck yoke. The neck yoke strap 7 is inserted into the loop through the ends 8 and is passed around and out under the keeper bar 9. A pin 15 is carried by the loop and is adapted to be inserted in the opening 16 in the strap to hold the same in its proper position.
The U shaped bar 3 may be made from heavy wire, a light steel rod or any suitable material desired, and the loop 4 may be made from sheet metal or other suitable material.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invent-ion, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described this invention what is claimed is:
1. In combination with a neck yoke, having spaced parallel openings formed therein, of a U shaped bar, having its ends inserted in said openings, and a U shaped wear loop adapted to straddle said neck yoke and hav ing its intermediate portion disposed between the intermediate portion of the bar and the neck yoke.
2. In combination with a neck yoke, having spaced parallel openmgs formed therein, of a U shaped bar, having its ends inserted in said opening, a U shaped loop carried by said bar, said loop comprising abody, provided with side flanges to form a channel, the ends of said flanges on the lower side being curved outwardly, and a keeper bar arranged across the ends of the flanges on the upper side thereof.
3. In combination with a neck yoke, having spaced parallel openings formed therein, of a U shaped bar, having its ends inserted in said openings, a U shaped wear loop disposed between the intermediate portion of the bar and the neck yoke, a keeper-bar arranged across the intermediate portion of the loop, having its ends extending beyond the sides of the loop, said ends having elongated openings therein to receive the side portions of the bar, and the intermediate portion of said bar being bent inwardly to prevent too much play of the wear loop, but allow the same to swing from side to side to give a direct pull at all times.
t. In combination with a neck yoke, having spaced parallel openings formed therein, of a U shaped bar, having its ends inserted in said openings, a U shaped wear loop disposed between the intermediate portion of the bar and the neck yoke, a keeper bar ar ranged across the intermediate portion of the loop, having its ends extending beyond the sides of the loop, said ends having elongated openings therein to receive the side portions of the bar, circular stops secured to the side portions of the bar to prevent the iaine from passing into the neck yoke too ar.
5. The combination with a neck yoke, of a U-shaped bar connected thereto, and a wear loop adapted to straddle the neck yoke and provided with a strap retaining bar having apertured ends through which the U-shaped bar passes.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
