EXHAUST FAN OR BLOWER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,407, dated July 11, 1893.

To all whom iv may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES E; CLARK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Strafiord and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Exhaust Fans or Blowers; and I do declare the following, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 of the drawings is an edge view of the head. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on line w a: Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is an end view. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of one of the floats on the line w-w, of Fig. 3.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in exhaust fans or blowers and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter specified.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of the above named character, which will be of such shape as to at once throw off all matter drawn into the case, and thereby prevent any liability of the fan becoming clogged or thrown out of balance.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the central or body portion of the wheel, which is somewhat in the form of two hollow cones joined at their bases, and flattened and rounded at the apices, so as to present a convex surface at all points. At each of the four corner portions of the center or bodyis a float B, of broad oval form at the extremity b, which has a transverse width considerably greater than the axial thickness of the body, which it joins by the narrow contracted and rounded neck portion 0. The beating faces of the floats form each a plane surface, which joins the rounded intermediate edge portion of the body at a slight angle c. The opposite face of each float rises convexly from each edge to the center d, and joins the body by the gradual curve f.

Extending centrally through the body parallel with the beating faces of the floats is the bore a, for the carrying shaft. The interior chamber of the hollow cones also extends partially within the floats, as shown in the drawmgs.

It will be apparent that any material drawn into the exhauster and coming in contact with the center of the head or wheel is thrown outwardly to the floats, and forced out of the exhauster at once, so that there is no possibility of clogging or choking,a difficulty heretofore experienced.

Although I have shown and described a headhaving four floats, it will be evident that more may be used without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having described this invention, what I I 1 claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. The herein described head for exhaust fans or blowers, comprising the central or body portion, of a shape similar to that of two cones joined at their bases and flattened and rounded at their apices, and convex along the entire surface, and the floats joined thereon, and also convexed on one face, substantially as specified.

2. The herein described head for exhaust fans or blowers, comprising the central or body portion of a shape similar to that of two hollow cones joined at their bases, flattened and rounded at the apices, and convex along the entire exterior surface, and float extensions joined thereto by the rounded neck portions 0, said float extensions terminating in broad oval portions having a plane beating surface and a convex reverse surface, all substantially as shown and described.
