Description

No. 865,207. PATENTED SEPT. s, 1907.
- 0. M. REED,
PUZZLE. APPLICATION FILED APR 28, 1907.
anuenfoz 1 v W I a ain,
OSCAR M. REED, OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
PUZZLE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1907.
Application filed April 29,1907. Serial 370.843;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OscAR M. REED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puzzles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a 7 full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to puzzles.
It has for its object to provide a simple device for use as a means of entertainment.
The invention consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described and specified in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention: Figure 1 is a side view of the key and ring assembled. Fig. 2 is a side view of the key alone, showing the end portion thereof ,disengaged from the body, and Fig. 3 is a side view of portion as shown in Fig. 2 but when screwed into 1 place the joint is invisible. Said body portion has a series of beads or collars 3 around its shank for the purpose of deceiving one into thinking that there is a joint at some one of them.
A ring 4 is mounted on the shank of the key and is of such size that it will not pass over the head 5 thereof or over the end portion 2, when in place, because of the obstruction formed by the ward 6. When said end piece is removed, however, said ring may be separated from the key as shown in Fig. 3.
Because of the close fit and invisible joint 7 between the end portion and body of the key, the puzzle is quite difficult to solve and will prove a valuable source of entertainment and amusement.
I claim:
1. A puzzle comprising a key consisting of a body por tion extending beyond the ward and a removable end por tion having an invisible joint with said body portion, and a ring on the shank of said body portion of such size that it cannot be removed therefrom when said end portion is in place but may be removed when said end portion is separated from said body portion.
2. A puzzle comprising a key consisting of a body portion extending beyond the ward, the shank of said body portion provided with a bead or collar for the purpose specified, and an end portion having an invisible joint with said body portion, and a ring on the shank of said body portion of such size that it cannot be removed therefrom when said end portion is in place but may be removed when said end portion is separated from said body portion.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
OSCAR M. REED.
