GUSTAVE A. SPAETH, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
COLLAR-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 765,862, dated July 26, 1904.
Application filed November 6, 1903. Serial No. 180,108. (No model.
To (LZZ whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUs'rAvE A. SPAETH, a citizen of the United States, residing at O0- lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Buttons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to collar-buttons; and it consists of an attachment for opening out the buttonhole, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a collar-button, showing the attachment applied to it. Fig. 2 is a front View of the collar-button and its attachment. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the collar-button and its attachment and a portion of a collar. Fig. 4 is a detail View of the button and the blade shown separate from each other.
A is a collar-button of any approved form provided with a guide-hole Z), formed longitudinally in its head.
B is the opening attachment, which consists of a tapering blade having a central projection 0 at its rear end for engaging with the hole 6 and two wings (Z, which engage with the head of the collar-button. The two wings are formed so as to fit the head of the button snugly, and they may be spring-wings, so as to insure a close contact, but this is not essential; but the wings should taper outwardly to conform with the outline of the head and fit tightly to it. The blade is preferably thrust about half-way through the buttonhole, and its rear end is then placed in engagement with the head of the collar-button, and the collar is then forced over the blade into engagement with the shank of the collar-button.
What I claim is- '1. The combination, with a collar-button having an axial hole in its head, of a tapering opening-blade for the buttonhole provided with an aXial projection on its larger end for engaging with the said hole in the collar-button and having also side wings which straddle the head of the said collar-button.
2. The combination, with a collar-button having a longitudinal hole in its head, of a tapering blade provided with a central projection at its rear end for engaging with the said hole, and having also two spring-wings which engage with the said head.
3. The combination, with a collar-button provided with a head having a hole in it arranged axially in line with its shank, of a tapering blade provided with side wings on its larger end which straddle the said head and having a projection between the said wings for engaging with the said hole.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAVE A. SPAETH.
