NECKTIE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,807, dated June 6, 1893.

Application filed December 28, 1892. Serial No. 456,607. (No specimens.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE ERNEST MIL- LER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peru, in the county of Miami and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Neckties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The present invention has relation to that class of neck-ties or scarfs adapted to be reversed so that eitherside maybe used to present to view a new or unworn surface or one of a different color'or design, thus enabling a single article of wearing apparel to serve the purpose of two separate and independent ties or scarfs.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of this class of ties or scarfs whereby they can be manufactured at a comparatively small cost and can be readily and easily reversed and present a very neat appearance on the wearer, which objects I attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 of the drawings represents a perspective view of my improved tie or scarf showing the waist thereof removed; Fig. 2 a similar view with the waist in position thereon; Fig. 3 a similar view of the upper end of the tie or scarf with the waist thereof removed and the loop partly broken away.

In the accompanying drawings A B represent the two skirts of the tie or scarf to the upper end of which is the usual loop 0 formed with or connected thereto in any suitable manner. A pin a. or other suitable fastening is connected to the tie or scarf and is located between the two skirts A B so that the neck strap I) may be used and fastened on either side of the tie or scarf, one end of said strap being attached in any preferred manner thereto as found most desirable.

The waist E encircles the looped end of the tie or scarf as shown in Fig. 2 and is provided with flaps F which are held together around the waist by an elastic or other suitable fastening as shown at b.

The'several parts of the tie or scarf are double faced, the facings being of the same or different patterns or designs, or of different colors, as found desirable in man ufacturing them for the trade.

In reversing the tie the flaps F are disconing them around to the rear side of the waist as shown in Fig. 2, thus serving as protecting flaps to cover the facing of the waist and preventwear thereof when brought in contact with the shirt and also from becoming soiled.

In the general make-up of the tie or scarf, many changes or modifications may be resorted to without departing from the principle of my invention, and any suitable fastening for the reversible protecting flaps may be employed and any means for securing the end of the neck-strap to the tie or scarf after passing around the neck of the wearer, such changes coming within the scope of the invention.

The neck-strap may be very easily changed from one side of the tie or scarf to the other by passing it through the loop thereof so that it will adapt itself to the side of the scarf or tie that is to be exposed to View.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A reversible neck-tie or scarf consisting of two skirts having a loop at their upper ends, and a pin or other fastening located between the skirts, a neck-strap, and a reversible waist provided with reversible flaps and means for securing the flaps in position, substantially as and for the purpose described.
