IMPROVEMENT IN POCKT-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 49,307. dated AAngnst 8, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUTs SAARBAGH, ot' Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Pocket-Books, 85e.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters ot' reference marked thereon.
My invention consists in a plate secured to "ihe side of apocket-book, andarranged to slide over thelatter and over the flap turned down `usual construction, a being' the front side,
against which is folded the flap b, the latter being a prolongation of the hack of the pocket-book. 4
-Aoross the front side of the book extends a metal plate, B, each end of which is bent over thc edge of the front side, a, of the book, so that the plate may slide readily across this side from the position shown in Fig. 1 tothe posi tion shown in dotted lines in the same ligure.
When the book is closed and the iap b has to be secured against thepside a. the plate B is brought to the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. l, and the end of the ap'is introduced between the plate and the hook. The plate B is then raised over the front side of the book and over the tlap b to the position shown in Fig. l, the flap being thus securely fastenedin its place. When the bool: has to be opened the plate is brought to the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. '1, when the end of the iiap may he readily withdrawn from under` the plate.
It will he apparent that the device is simple and cheap, and can be readily applied to 0rdinary books without altering the construction ot' the latter.
