' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS B. PRAHAR, or BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR ro PRAHAR & SHEPHARD, on NEW YORK, n. Y.
FASTENING FOR HAND-BAG, POCKET-BOOK, AND PURSE FRAMES.
SPECZPICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,789, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed January 14, 1886. Serial No. 189,750. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS B. PRAHAR, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Hand- Bag, Pocket-Book, and Purse Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ofthis specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation of a purse-frame to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional end elevation of the same, taken through the line no at, Fig. 1. and shown closed. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the same. Fig. 4 is the same view as Fig. 2, but shown open.
The object of this invention is to provide fastenings for hand bag, pocket book, and purse frames, constructed in such a manner that they will fasten themselves when the frames are closed, and that the frames will be partly opened by unfastening the fastenings.
The invention consists in the construction of the various parts of the fastening in connection with the parts of the frame, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A B represent the parts of the frame, which are hinged to each other at their ends in the ordinary manner.
To the part A of the frame is soldered or otherwise secured a plate, 0, the forward edge of which projects beyond the inner edge of the said part A of the frame, and to the said forward edge is hinged, by a rivet, G, the inner edge of a plate, D, in such a manner that when the said plate D is swung outward its said inner edge will project below the inner surface of the said plate 0, so as to be struck by the other part, B, of the frame when the said frame is being closed. In the inner surface of the plate D is formed a recess, E, to receive the catch F, formed upon or rigidly attached to the part B of the frame.
WVith this construction, when the frame A B is being closed, the part B strikes the side of the inner edge of the hinged plate D, and as the said part B of the frame passes the rivet G it swings the said plate D into the plane of the plate 0, and causes the said plate D to engage 'with the catch F of the part B of the frame, and the frame is fastened shut.
To open the frame A B the outer edge of the hinged plate D is raised, raising the recess E off the catch F, and swinging the inner edge of the said hinged plate D against the inner side of the part B of the frame and starting the said part B outward, or partly opening it, so that the said frame can be readily opened.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination, with the parts A B of the frame, of the plate 0, rigidly attached to the part A and projecting beyond the forward side of the said part, the plate D, hinged to the plate 0 and provided with a recess, E, in its under side, and the catch F, rigidly attached to the part B of the frame, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the said plate D, when the frame is being closed and the forward side of the said part B passes the hinging-rivet, will be swung down into the plane of the plate 0 and made to engage with the catch F, as set forth.
LOUIS B. PRAHAR.
