UNHE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH OLDFIELD, OF TORONTO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO ROSA JANE OLDFIELD AND FREDERICK REESOR JAMES, OF SAME PLACE.
DUPLICATING CHECK-BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,926, dated December 27, 1892.
Application filed April 16,1892. Renewed December 2, 1892. Serial No. 453,842. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH OLDFIELD, manufacturers agent, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario,Oanada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Duplicating Check- Books, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in duplicating check books and the object of the invention is toprovide a simple means for attachingthe cover to the book and it consists essentiallyin forming a slip in the upper part of the middle portion of the cover and attaching to the bottom of the stub a tongue preferably provided with sides beveled off in order that the tongue may be readily inserted in the slit, the covers being intended to be used in the manner hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure 1,is a perspective view of the cover showing the slit. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the back of the book showing the tongue. Fig. 3, is an enlarged sectional detail from the top to the bottom of the book showing the means whereby the book is held in position in the cover.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A, is the body of the book, 13, the cover which is made in one sheet and of three sections, 6, f, and, g. The section, 6, containing the black leaf, the section, g, containing the tally sheet and the center section,f, haviuga slit, f, (see Fig. 1). The back of the body of the book has stitched to it a card board tongue, 0, which is preferably attached when the book is being stitched or bound. The sides of the tongue, O, are beveled to the bottom edge of the tongue so as to enable it to be readily inserted in the slit, f, in the center portion,f, of the cover. It will be seen that this mode of attaching the cover is very c0nvenient for this class of book to which it is intended to be devoted-exclusively.
What I claim as my invention is.
A duplicating check book, consisting of a cover made up of three sections, with the black leaf on one side and the tally sheet on the other, leaving the back of the cover intermediate, a slit in the upper part of this back section, and a body having a tongue secured thereto, and adapted to pass through the slit to the rear side of the back, substantially as described.
JOSEPH OLDFIELD.
