Description

(No. Model.)
I F. ENGELHARD.
BUTTONHOLE REINPORGE FOR GOLLARS. No. 488,806.
Patented Dec. 27, 1892.
N In?) 8171 01";
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDERICKE ENGELHARD, OF HOFHEIM-ON-TAUNUS, GERMANY.
BUTTONHOLE-REINFORCE FOR COLLARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,806, dated December 27,1892
Application filed August 26, 1892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDERICKE ENGEL- HARD, of Hofheim-on-Taunus, in the Kingdom of Germany, have invented a new and useful Buttonhole-Reinforce for Collars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to reinforces for button holes of collars, and has for its object to provide a reinforcement for the front button holes, which may be readily applied to any collar when the button holes become so worn as to render the collar useless without a reinforcement of some kind.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, wherein the same parts are indicated by the same letters in both of the figures.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of my reinforce as ready to be applied to a collar. Fig. 2 is a plan View on a reduced scale, of a collar provided with a pair of my reinforces.
The reinforce consists of a flexible metal plate a preferably rectangular in form as shown in Fig. 1, and as an extension 6 from the lower side provided with two horizontal lugs d. This pair of lugs d is adapted to pass through the collar and engage in corresponding slots 0 in the plate a when applied to a collar and the extension bent over flat upon the outside of the same. The collar is thus held firmly between the plate a and the extension e of the reinforce.
To apply the reinforce to acollar, place the reinforce on the inside of the front of the collar in such a manner that the extension 6 will Serial No. 444,186. (No model.)
then be made in the collar-band with aknife,
scissors, or any other suitable article, to correspond with the slots 0 in the plate a. The extension e is then folded up upon the outside of the collar, and the two lugs d are bent toward each other and then pushed through the slits made in the collar band and the corresponding slots in the plate Ct on the inside until the said extension lies flat against the outside of the collar. The said lugs are then bent away from each other, and the reinforce is firmly attached.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:-
As an article of manufacture, a reinforce for the front button holes of collars, comprising a flexible plate having the rectangular portion (1 provided near one end with a hole 1) adapted to correspond with the button hole of the collar, and having two slots 0; and the extension e provided with a pair of lugs d adapted to pass through the collar and engage in the corresponding slots 0, when the said reinforce is applied to a collar, substantially as described.
I In witness whereof I have hereunto setmy hand in presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDERIOKE ENGELHARD.
