To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK J. HORSTMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Harmony,in the county of Posey and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Gulf- Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in cud-fasteners, the objects in view being to provide a device of cheap and convenient construction adapted to be employed for securing ends for either ladies or gentlemens wear in the dress or coat sleeves, whereby in the lat ter instance the end may be removed simultaneously with the coat and will retain its position therein.

Various other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cuff-holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken through a portion of a coat sleeve and cuff. Fig. 3 is a bottom perspective.

From a sheet-metal blank of suitable gage or thickness and preferably of spring material the device to be described is struck-up,-

and consequently its cheapness of manufacture is for the most part assured. The blank is a narrow strip whose ends are rounded,

and adjacent to one of its ends the blank is reduced. This reduced portion is bent transversely over and upon the main portion of the blank, as indicated ml, and one half or moreof said blank is upwardly bent to form a neck 2, the remaining portion being rearwardly bent and supporting the head 3 which is formed by that portion of the blank beyond the neck. The inner or main portion of the blank is provided with a pair of slits 4, the stock thus cut out being depressed to form a spring tongue 5, which termlnates at its lower or free end in a rounded guard end 6,immediately in rear of which it is provided with a series of nicks forming a roughened portion 7. A pin 8 is secured to the upper end and beyond the outer side of the blank. Now the body portion 9, extends over said end and under said body portion until it reaches a point immediately in rear of the guard end 6 of the tongue, at which point said pin isslightly deflected away from the tongue or outwardly, whereby it may be'readily engaged with the lining of the sleeve.

In use the head or button 3 is slipped through the button-holes or hole of the cuff after the manner of the ordinary cuff-fastener, and the holder passed up the sleeve of the wearer to a suitable point and the pin engaged with the lining thereof. Thissleeve I have indicated by the numeral 10. The tongue 7 presses outward against the inner face of the lining and prevents, in connection with the roughened portion, any attempt of the device from moving upward and thus disengaging with the lining.

It will be seen that the device may be applied either before or after its application to the cuff, and may remain in position after the removal of the cuff therefrom; furthermore, that the cuffs are removed with the coat and may be adjusted any length, irrespective of the length of the shirt sleeve with which they are worn, so that the proper exposure of the linen may be at all times secured.

Having described my invention, what I claim ,is

1. The herein described cud-holder, the same consisting of a base, provided at one end upon one side with a headed stud, and upon its opposite side and end with a pin and spring-tongue, the spring-tongue extending beyond the pin and bent to form a guard for the point thereof, substantially as specified.

2.
