UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FREDERICK BORNEMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED STOOL AND COAL-RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,912, dated September 20, 1892.
Application filed December 11, 1891. Serial No. 414,686. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, FREDERICK BORNEMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Stool and Coal-Receptacle; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the, art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in a combined stool and coal receptacle; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, whereby the receptacle isolates the fuel or other articles placed therein, as well as serving as a stool, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my combined stool and fuel-receptacle; and Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in section, of the same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the receptacle, which is composedof the vertical side pieces a a and a rear piece 19, the floor or bottom 0, and the front piece 01, a hinged or removable cover or top 6, and an oblique partition-board f, and preferably provided with casters g. This oblique board forms to an extent a false bottom for the receptacle, and the same slants downwardly and rearwardly to a point h, between which point or edge of the board aforesaid and the rear wall of the receptacle is an opening i, communicating with the spacej below said board, thus providing a chute for the fuel placed within the receptacle and forcing said fuel rearwardly and upon the floorinthe rear of the space The front wall of this receptacle and below the slantingfalse bottom is provided with an opening 10', whereby the contents of the receptacle is accessible. This opening is provided with a door Z, hinged to the inside of the receptacle, as at m, and at the top of the opening and opening inwardly, the same having on its outer face a handle n, by which the door is opened, and by the same handle the :receptacle can be moved from place to place. On the front of the receptacle is a spring-catch 0, which receives the stem or handle of a shovel p, that can be used in removing fuel from the receptacle.
It will be seen from the above description and by reference to the annexed drawings that the fuel is fed from the space above the inclined floor to the mouth of the lower space and on the bottom of the receptacle, Where access can be had thereto through the opening in the front wall. The cover of the receptacle, being upholstered, serves as a seat, and the door as arranged forces, when being opened, any fuel rearwardly that may drop near the opening from the shovel.
A device as herein constructed can be used for other purposes than fuel-for instance, potatoes, sugar, 850., can be put therein-and the door prevents rats or mice from entering the receptacle, and it is simple in operation, durable as well as ornamental, and at the same time cheap .to manufacture.
What I claim is- In a fuel-box, the improved box A, having the inclined partitionf, and the door Z, hinged at Mon the inner face of the front wall and provided with the handle a, said door serving the double purpose of closing the opening 70 and forcing the fuel rearw ardly therefrom when pushed inwardly, thereby keeping the floor near the front opening clear of fuel, the handle also serving the twofold purpose of operating the door and moving the box from one place to another, all as shown and described.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK BORNEMANN;
Witnesses:
