2 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures COMBINATION OF BAR STOOL AND REFUSE CONTAINER This invention related generally to bar stools such as may be used at a bar in a den or which may serve at a kitchen counter or breakfast bar.
A principle object of the present invention is to provide a bar stool which besides being attractive and useful as a stool, may serve additionally as a refuse container.
Another object is to provide a bar stool for use in a home and which includes a comfortable elevated foot rest ring all around the stool so that a person may sit thereupon facing into any direction and use the foot rest ring.
Yet another object is to provide a bar stool wherein the foot rest ring is spaced away from the sides of the stool for comfortably placing a person's feet thereupon, but wherein the spaced away ring does not extend outwardly beyond the outer edge of the bar stool base or the bar stool cushion, so that it can conveniently take up a minimum amount of space.
Other objects are to provide a combination bar stool and refuse container which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention and which includes a removable cushion for access to a refuse container therewithin.
FIG. 2 is a top view thereof.
FIG. 3 is a side view thereof.
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view of a modified design of the interior structure.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a detail of structure shown in FIG. 4.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, and more particularly at this time to FIGS. 1 to 3, the reference numeral represents a combination bar stool and refuse container according to the present invention wherein there is hollow cylinder 11 which is attractively inwardly bowed at its middle so to provide space for circular foot rest ring 12 secured in spaced relation therearound. The ring is secured to the cylinder by means of radially extending braces 13, the ring and braces being made of polished metal while the cylinder 11 is made of attractively colored rigid plastic. A circular bottom wall 14 encloses the interior of the cylinder, while a removable circular top plate 15 surmounted by a cushion 16 provides access to the interior for placement of refuse therewithin. A removable metal container may be placed into the interior of the cylinder so to easily dump out the refuse after being filled.
The bar stool may be made 36 inches high, 13 inches in diameter at top and bottom, while being 10 inches in diameter at its middle.
In the modified design of the invention shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the bar stool 17 includes an access door 18 along a side thereof so that refuse may be placed into a metal container or receptacle l9 placed within the stool interior 20. The door 18 pivots inwardly about a hinge pin 21 and is spring loaded so that the door normally is in a closed position by a tab 22 at the lower edge of the door bearing against the inner side of the stool cylinder 23. The receptacle I9 is secured by a bale 2 to the underside of CUSl'llOI'l plate 25 for being lifted out for dumping purpose. The upper edge 26 of the receptacle I9 is outwardly flared so that refuse is directed in falling into the receptacle 19 instead of falling into the crevice formed between the inner side of cylinder 23 and the receptacle 19. The lip of the flared edge can rest on the downwardly conical portion of the bowed middle section of the cylinder so that there is no crevice at all between parts 19 and 23.
Thus in this form of the invention, refuse may be more easily inserted into the stool instead of lifting up the large cushion plate 15. Also a person may use the refuse receptacle while the seat cushion is occupied by a person seated thereupon.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Iclaim:
I. A combination bar stool and refuse container comprising a hollow stool flaring inwardly from a large open upper end of circular cross-section to narrower intermediate portion of circular cross-section and then flaring outwardly to a large closed bottom of circular cross-section, in combination with a circular seat mounted sealingly on the said open upper end including a cylindrical refuse can secured to said seat and mounted in said stool, said can having an enlarged rim engaging said intermediate portion whereby said intermediate portion supports said can in spaced relationship from said stool bottom and said seat.
2. The combination as in claim 1 including an inwardly pivoting access door provided in the stool above the said can, wherein said can is secured to said seat with members spaced to permit pivotal motion of said door.
Claims (2)
