To all whom ifv may concern:

1 3e it known that I, EDWARD T. HUNTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mo- Gregor, in the county of McLennan and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bins for Flour, Meal, &c., of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to an improved tilting bln for containing flour, meal, sugar, and other materials, and adapted for use in stores or dwellings, either in connection with a counter, closet, or other suitable casing, as hereinafter set forth. In the annexed drawings, illustrating the lnventlon, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a closet creasing provided with my improved bins, one of which is shown open or tilted outward to give access to the interior. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same from front to rear through the opened bin. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a loose bin-cover provided with a stop to limit the forward movement of the tilting bin.

- poses or otherwise. This casing is preferably so made as to be of greater width at top than at the bottom for convenience in standing near it. In length the casing may be of sufficient capacity to accommodate one or more bins, B, of convenient size for containing flour, meal,

sugar, or other articles in bulk, and if two or more bins are provided the casing will be made with a suitable number of partitions, b, to

separate the bins from each other.

In the bottom of the casing A are bearing rails c, on which the tilting bins B are sup ported, and in the upper rear part of the easing are blocks or shoulders at for supporting the rear edge of a loose bin-cover, 0, when the bin is tilted forward.

The sides of each bin B are extended down below its bottom 6 to form rockers f. which rest on the bearing-railsc, said rockers being suitably curved to enable the bin to be tilted forward and back with ease. The front of the bin isalso extended down below its bottom and fits in behind a horizontal strip, 9, at the lower front edge of the casing to make a close and neat finish whether the bin is opened or sloped backward, as shown, to facilitate its inward and outward movements.

When the bin is man upright position, its top'is closed by a loose automatic cover. 0, the rear edge of which drops onto a bearing formed,as here sho"wn,by the blocks or shoulders d as the bin is tipped forward. Across the under sideof the loose cover 0, near its front edge,isa cleat or stop, h, which fits within the top of the bin. This cleat is adapted to engage the back of the open bin, thus forming a stop to limit the forward movements of the bin, and at the same time serves as a connection between the bin and cover to prevent the displacement of the latter, so that as the bin is moved backward within the casing the cover will automatically resume its normal position In order to allow a backward moveon top of the bin, and thereby exclude dust and insects.

It will be seen that as the loose cover 0 is somewhat wider than the opening in the front of the casing through which the bin passes, there will be no liability of withdrawing the cover with the bin when the latter is tipped forward, but it will always remain in the easing in position to engage the bin.

Although the cover 0 is loosely connected with the bin, as described, it is so made as to rest firmly and closely thereon, and thus afford a reliable means of excluding insects and dust, Each bin maybe provided with a handle, k, by which it can be moved, and alatch, catch, or other fastening, m, to secure it in a closed position.

The operation and advantages of my improved tilting bin and automatic cover will be readily understood from the foregoing description, and need not be further explained.
