UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
JONATHAN BATES, OE BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN REED-ORGAN CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160.997, dated March 23, 1875 application filed November 13,1874,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN BATES, of Boston, of the county of Suii'olk and State oi' Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in ReedOrgan Gases; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l denotes a perspective view of one of my improved organ-cases with its desk and key lids turned up. Fig. 2 is a similar view of it with both of said lids turned down. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of it.
rlhe object of the invention is to combine a desk and reed-organ in one case, So that one or the other may be used, as occasion may require.
To this end, in carrying out my invention, I make the case not only with the key-chamber A and its cover B, and the usual space or chamber C for the reeds and bellows, but over such I arrange in the case, and above the keychamber A, and back ot' it, another chamber, D, open in front, and there provided with a lid, E, hinged to the lower part of the opening, so as to be capable of being turned from a vertical position, as Shown in Fig. 1, down into an inclined one, as shown in Fig. 2, and to rest on the top ofthe cover B. The chamber D may be provided with partitions and drawers, such as are usually in upright desks, the same being shown in Fig. 2.
Furthermore, directly over the chamber D I arrange or make the case with another or shallow chamber, F, open at top, and there provided with a cover, G, to close down horizontally upon the opening, this latter chamber being to hold sheet-music or music-books.
I claim.-
1. The reed organ case provided with the desk-chamber D and lid E, combined and arranged with thekey-chamber A and its cover B,
and the bellows and reed-chamber G, all substantially as specified.
2. rlhe reed-organ case provided with the chamber F, cover Gr, the desk-chamber D and lid E, the key-chamber A and its cover B, and the bellows and reed-chamber C, all arranged as set forth.
JONATHAN BATES.
