UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SALLY SALINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 476,687, dated June '7, 1892.
Application filed February 1, 1892. Serial No. 419,9A4. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SALLY SALINGER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Safety Attachment for Pockets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved safety attachment for use in the ordinary garment-pockets, and which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to be easily attached to or detached from the garment-pocket.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement with the top bag open. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and as applied. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. l, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of a modified form of frame.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, three bagsA A A are connected and suspended within a garment-pocket. The upper bag A is alone attached to the said garment-pocket, and the other two bags A A are suspended from the first bag A by means that will be presently described. The bodyB of each bag may have a partition B and is provided with a metal j aw-frame 0, having a suitable locking device D. One of the hinged jaws of frame 0 is constructed with two slots, (see Fig. 1,) and lugs H and I are arranged on opposite sides of such slots, as shown best in Fig. 3. These lugs are preferably formed integrally with the jaw and perforated to adapt them to receive the devices E, which secure the bag to a garment. The devices consist of pairs of pins connected bya cross-bar G and adapted to slide in said lugs H and I. In fastening the bag A to a garment-pocket, as shown, the pins E pass through a portion of it, which,
' for that purpose (see Fig. 3) is drawn into the opening J, between the said parts H and I.
Thus, a bag-in this case the upper bag Ais detachably secured to the garment-pocket, and the others A and A are suspended from it.
In order to connect the bags A, A and A with each other, as shown in Fig. 1, the bags A and A are formed at their lower ends with eyes K, and similar eyes L are formed on the frames 0 of the bags A and A the said eyes L being located directly opposite the eyes K and connected with the same by rings N, adapted to be opened and closed in the usual manner. The rings employed are preferably sectional and held closed by springs or other means. By opening the rings N the several bags can be readily detached from one another and the detached bag can then be used independently of the others in another garment-pocket, if desired.
It will be noted (see Fig. 2) that the fas-= tening device E, that attaches the upper bag A to the side of the garment-pocket, and the connecting devices K N L are all applied on the same (the left) side of the bags, so that all the bags hang in line against one side of the garment-pocket, thus leaving the other (right) side free to provide convenient access to the mouths of the suspended pockets A and A The metal frame of one bag A (see Fig. 4) is formed with an outward bend 0, located near the middle, the frame 0 being in such case provided with two locking devices D, arranged on opposite sides of the said bend G. This bag A is more especially designed for use in vest-pockets to support and hold a watch, the chain of which extends through the bend C.
By having the two locks D at opposite sides of the bend O the watch cannot be removed from the bag when the frame C is closed, thus preventing unauthorized persons from drawing the watch out of the bag.
If the several bags A A A are connected with each other, as shown in the drawings, then only the uppermost bag A is attached by its fastening device E to the garmentpocket F, the bag A being suspended from the bag A and the bag A from the bag A. The several bags can be used for various purposes, the upper bag being principally de signed for containing change, as previously with a garment-pocket F, of a bag A, having a device E for fastening it to the garmentpocket, a second bag A and the devices consisting of the ears K L and ring N, which detachably connect it to the upper bag A, the said devices being applied on the same side as the device that secures the upper bag to the garment-pocket, as and for the purpose specified.
