PIGKPOOKET PROOF POCKET REGBPTAGLVE. No. 379,319. Patented Mar.'13, 1888,

UNITED STATES PATENT Prion.
SOLLO MENDELSON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
PlCKPOCKET-PROOF POCKET-RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,319, dated March 13, 1888.
Application filed January 9, 1888. Serial No. 260,267. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
at the mouth of the pocket. I The bolts are Be it known that I, SOLLO MENDELSON, a then released and passed through the lining of citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Pickpooket Proof Pocket Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide means for securing valuables in vest and simi- IO lar pockets.
The drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is a view of the receptacle as it appears when secured in the pocket. A portion of the plate or casing A is broken away to expose the mechanism of the lock. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same on line :v at, showing the receptacle closed to secure a watch in the pocket. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the same line, showingthe receptacle open to release the watch. Fig. 4 shows the receptacle with the bolts pressed in to allow the receptacle to be placed in or removed from the pocket.
A A are two metal plates, secured together near the lower side by hinges B B, mounted on each side of the plates, so as to allow the top and bottom of the plates to be moved to and from each other, thereby allowing the mouth of the receptacle to be opened and closed. A flexible partition, 0, is attached to and extends between the plates A A near their lower edges, to sustain the'watch and a spring, D, is mounted between the plates below the partition 0. The tendency of the spring D is to hold the lower edges of the plates A A apart, thus closing the mouth of the receptacle,
as shown in Fig. 2.
The device is equal in width to the width of the pocket in which it is designed to be placed, and is provided with two bolts, E E, which 40 project from either side thereof, as shown in Fig. 1. These bolts are mounted in ways F F F, provided therefor, and in which they slide to and fro. A spring, G, is mounted be tween these bolts and engages with them to 5 hold them apart, as shown in Fig. l.
The operation of the device is as follows: The receptacle is placed in the vest-pocket by pressing the bolts together, as shown in Fig. 4, thus allowing the bolts to pass below the hem the pocket below the hem. This will prevent the receptacle from being drawn out of the pocket unless the bolts are first pressed together. The watch is then placed. within the receptacle, the topsof the plates A A being first spread apart. This may be done by press ing the bottoms of the plates toward each other. Each plate is provided on its inner side with a hollow or depression, I, in which the watch rests when the receptacle is closed. The shoulders J J serve to retain the watch in the receptacle when the same is closed. When the watch is thus secured in the pocket, it cannot be removed without first opening the receptacle. The one wearing the vest can easily do this by either pressing the bottoms of the plates toward each other or by pushing the tops of the plates apart, but it cannot be done by others without attracting attention.
The watch cannot be cut out of the pocket, as the receptacle is of metal.
The plates may be lined on the inside with chamois-skin, if desired.
Now, having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi l. The combination of the plates A A, hinged to each other near their lower sides, the springs D, mounted between the plates at their lower sides, and the bolts E E, mounted in suitable ways, F F, and extending beyond the edges of the receptacle.
2. The pocket-receptacle set forth, comprising the combination of two metal plates provided with inwardly-projecting shoulders at their upper sides and hinged together near their lower sides, the spring D, and the laterally-projecting movable bolts E E.
3. The combination of the two metal plates A A, hinged together near their lower sides, the spring D, mounted between the plates at their lower edges, the bolts E E mounted in the ways F F F, and the spring G.
4. The combination of the plates A A, hinged together near their lower sides, the spring D, flexible partition 0, bolts E E, provided with the-handles H Ll,mounted in the ways F F F", and the spring G.
