ISAAC \VEOHSLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SUSPENDERS.
QPIECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,285, dated January 2'7, 1908.
Application filed June 16,1902. Serial No. 111,915. (No model.)
To (1 66 whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Isaac WEcHsLER, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in the back rings for suspenders, the object being to provide a back ring of simple and novel construction so arranged that the suspenders may be turned in it and held in position to pass over the wearers shoulders or turned and held in position to serve as a belt.
I will describe suspenders embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face view of a back ring embodying my invention with the suspenders in position to pass over the shoulders. Fig. 2 is a face view thereof with the suspenderstraps turned to form a belt. Fig. 3 shows the ring with the suspenders detached, and Fig. 1 is an edge view thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the back ring, which is substantially in the shape of a horseshoe, and on the lower portion of the ring is a button 2 for receiving the clip 3, to which the end pieces or button-straps 4 are attached. At the center of a substantially horizontally-extended upper portion the ring is provided with an inwardly-extended lug 5, and at the inner sides of the curved side portions of the ring are the inwardly-extended lugs (3, 7, S, and 9.
In operation when the suspenders are designed to pass over the wearers shoulders the ends of the Suspender-straps 1O 11, which are looped around the ring, will be engaged, respectively, between the lugs 5 and 6 and 5 and 9, as indicated in Fig. 1. These lugs will prevent the suspender-straps from accidentally moving downward on the ring, and the center lug 5 will hold the ends of the straps sufficiently apart. When the straps are to be used as a belt, the clip 3 is to be removed from the ring, as are also the button cords or straps at the front ends of the suspenders. Then the Suspender-straps are to be moved downward to engage between the lugs 6 7 and the lugs 8 9, as indicated in Fig. 2. These rugs will prevent the ring from turning, or, in other other words, hold the ring at all times with its upper substantially horizontal portion in its uppermost position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In combination with suspender-straps and button-straps, of the back ring having inwardly-extended lugs at opposite sides, between which the Suspender-straps may be engaged, and a button on the lower portion of the ring, for removably engaging the buttonstraps, substantially as specified.
2. A back ring for suspenders, of substantially horseshoe shape, pairs of lugs extended inward from opposite sides of the ring, a lug extended inward from the upper portion of the ring, and a button on the lower portion of the ring.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ISAAC WEOHSLER.
