Be it known that I, BENJAMIN LAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concordia, in the county of Cloud and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Hame- Tug Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in snap-hook attachment for hame-tugs.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive snap-hook attachment for hame-tugs capable of readily yielding to the motion of an animal and affording ready means for attachment to ahame.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a snap-hook attachment for hametugs constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 is a transverse section through the pivot of the snap-hook.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, l designates a snap-hook consisting of a shank provided at one end with a hook 2 and at the other end with an eye 3, adapted for the reception of a transverse rivet 4 by means of which the snap-hook is secured to a clip-plate 5. The shank of the snap-hook is provided with a longitudinal recess extending from the eye 3 to the hook 2 and 'having arranged therein a pivoted tongue 6, with a perforation 7 at one end to receive the transverse rivet 4 and provided at its other end With a curved projection S, which engages the hook 2 and completes the same and forms an eye to retain the staple of a haine, and the said tongue 6 is held in engagement with the hook by a spring 9, secured to the tongue and arranged within the recess and adapted to be depressed to open the mouth of the hook.

The clip-plate which secures the snap-hook to a tug lO consists of a rectangular plate provided at its sides with flanges 11, which project beyond the ends of the plates to form ears 12 and 13. The ears 12 are provided with perforations, through which passes the rivet at, and the ears 13 are connected by a transverse bar 14, to which the tug 10 is secured. The side flanges ll of the clip-plate are provided with an integral centrally-arranged keeper 15, which retains the free end of a trace-strap when the latter is secured to the tug.

It will be seen that the snap-hook attachment for hame-tugs is simple and inexpensive in construction, adapted to be readily secured to a tug and a haine, and is capable of readily yielding to the motion of an animal.

By the improvement hereinbefore set forth the snap-hook or the clip may be detached from each other and from the tug when they have become worn or broken and others be readily substituted in place of the same. As the clip is of such form as not to require a particular arrangement of the end of the tug, it can be applied to any tug now in use, and any form of snap-hook may be employed therewith and connected thereto in the manner hereinbefore set forth. By this means agreat advantage is gained, in that if part of the attachment breaks or becomes Worn and the other still remains in condition for usage it is not necessary to dispense with the use of the entire device, but only that part thereof which is uniitted for further use.

Vhat I claim is- The herein-described hame-tu g attachment, consisting of a clip-plate of rectangular form and having a flat bottom, open ends, and side flanges 11 at right angles to said bottom plate and extending beyond the plate at the opposite ends thereof to form ears 12 and 13, the ears 13 being connected by a transverse bar 14, to which the tug is attached, and a centrallyarranged keeper 15, integrally formed with said side flanges and projecting transversely over and parallel with the bottom plate above the line of the said side iianges, and a snaphook formed with bearings through the ends of its shank and tongue and removably secured to ears 12 by a removable pintle, the openings or spaces at the ends of the bottom plate between the ears l2 and 13 of said clipplate allowing the snap-hook and end of tug secured tosaid c1ip-plate between said ears to have free yielding movement, and thereby rendered adjustable without Wear on said 5 parts, the said parts being adapted to be independently constructed and attached andv detached, as set forth.
