HARNESS ATTACH MENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,531, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed March 28, 1893. Serial No. 468,085. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN CECIL CAMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vernon, in the county of VVilbarger and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harness Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
-My invention relates to a back-band and chain trace attachment, having for its object a simple, strong, and durable device to connect the chain trace to the back-band, thereby holding the chain trace and back-band in their proper places and thus prevent chafing of the horse, 850., by the trace chain when it slackens.
The invention consists in a certain novel construction and arrangement of devices, fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device connected to the back-band and showing a link of the trace chain engaged therein. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the device showing the key turned one-fourth round from its regular position thus permitting the beveled fastening plate to slide back and open the hook, and also showing the link of the trace chain detached. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4: is the flattened key. Fig. 5 is a detail View of the fastening plate. Fig. 6 is a detail front View of the base. Fig. 7 is a lateral view of the base. Fig. 8 is a back view of the base.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the base, having a groove a a in which the fastening plate, B, is placed and works, and also having a closed loop a, an open hook a and a fixed bolt (1 The fastening plate B has one beveled end I), which joins with and closes the open hook a and also has a longitudinal slot, b,which receives the fixed bolt 0.
C represents the flattened key having a threaded aperture 0 to receive the fixed bolt a D designates one of the links of the trace chain engaging the hook a E a section of the back-band, F the strap attaching the device to the back-band. Said strap F may be fastened to the back-band either by brads or by being sewed thereto. The upper part of the fixed bolt 0, is. threaded with either right hand or left hand threads to engage the threads in the flattened key C in its aperture 0, and is slightly headed at the end to prevent key C from losing off, and also to hold the same closer to the fastening plate B.
To attach the device to the trace chain turn the flattened key C one-fourth round as shown in Fig. 2, then the fastening plate B slides back and leaves the hook a open, engage the desired link D of the trace chain in the hook a then slide the fastening plate 13 back tillit meets with and closes hook a and turn the flattened key C till it looks the fastening plate 13 in that position.
- The invention is very simple and with it the desired link of the chain can be very easily and quickly attached to the back-band or hip strap.
Having thus described the invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following:
In harness attachments the combination of the open hook, grooved, and looped base A attached to the back-band, and the fastening plate B having alongitudinal slot 1), to receive the fixed or integral threaded bolt a and having a beveled end which meets with and closes the open hook a and the flattened key, C, having a threaded aperture 0 to receive the fixed bolt a to lock the device, substantially as specified. I
