Description

UNITED STATES;
PATENT OFFICE.
ALVIN CURTIS REEVES, OF PALOUSE, VASHINGTON TERRITORY.
STRAP-L00 P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,194, dated April 30, 1889.
Application filed December 13, 1888. Serial No. 293,451. (No model.)
To all whom, t mag/concern.-
Beit known that I, ALVIN CURTIS REEVES., a citizen of the United States, residing at Palouse, in the county of'Whitman, Washington Territory, have invented new and useful Improvements in Keepers for Straps, of which the following is a specification..
This invention relates to a keeper or fastening device for straps suitable to be applied to the back-band of aharness to hold the backstrap in position thereon; and it consists in a Certain novel construction and combination of devices, fully described hereinafter in connection With the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the keeper applied in its operative position to the harness. Y Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the keeper detached. Fig. 3 is a plan view partly in section.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates the improved keeper, which is secured to the center of the back-band B, and C designates the back-strap, the rear end of which is bifurcated to form the latches D D, to'which are attached the ends of the crupper. (Not shown.)
The keeper consists of the base-plate E, which is secured by rivets F F to the back- ,band,.and the raised loop G, integral with the said base-plate- The sides g g of the loop diverge toward their rear ends, and a forwardlytapered separator or block, H, is arranged at the center of the loop, with its sides parallel, respectively, with the sides of the loop. This separator is integral with the base-plate and loop.
The latches D D on the rear end of the backstrap are passed through the loop respectively on opposite sides of the separator, which fits Y inthe angle between the latches, and it will lbe seen that the rear ends of the latches are thus separated and held in a suitable position to enable the ends of the crupper to be attached thereto. At the ends of the back strap or band B is attached the belly-band B2 by means of metallic Vloops X, which loops are held in place by rivets, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. A keeper for straps, consisting of a loop which is provided at an intermediate point with a stationary tapered or Wedge-shaped separator arranged transversely therein, whereby straps extending through the keeper on opposite sides of the separator are held in a di vergent position, substantially as specified.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, the keeper for straps, comprising a loop provided With divergent sides, andthe stationary tapered or wedge-shaped separator disposed in the loop,with its sides respectively parallel with the sides of the loop, substantiel-113T as speciiied.
3. The keeper having a base-plate, a loop provided with divergent sides, and a tapered or wedge-shaped separator arranged centrally in the loop,with its sides parallel respectively with the sides of the loop, combined with the back strap bifurcated at one end to form latches D D, which pass through the loop on opposite sides of the separator, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature i1 presence of two witnesses.
ALVIN CURTIS VES.
