llNiTE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES W. ASHWORTH, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
STRETCHER FOR ,NECKTlE-BOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,687, dated April 26, 1892. Application filed May 20, 1891. Serial No.'393,415. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES W. AsHWoRTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Necktie-Bows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the combination, with a necktie-bow, of astretcher formed of a single piece of wire'bent centrally to form a square or rectangular end with projecting parallel sides, which are afterward inwardly disposed to form a pointed end, and a base of card-board or other suitable material that is jointed to the rectangular end and located within the stretcher. The front laps of the necktie-wings are drawn over the stretcher for retaining their shapeand keeping them flat and smooth.
On reference to the accompanying sheet of drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan View of a necktie-bow in which the stretchers and bases are shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the stretchers and bases without the necktie. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a single stretcher and its base, and Fig. at is an edge view of Fig. 3.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
D is a stretcher, formed of a single piece of wire bent centrally to form a square end and parallel sides, which are afterward inwardly disposed to make a pointed end, so as to conform to the square end a, parallel edges b, and point d of the front laps e of the necktie-wings B, (dotted lines Fig. 1.)
E is a base, of card-board or other suitable material, which is jointed to the square end of the stretcher D and located Within its parallel sides. The front laps e of the boWsB are drawn and stretched over the stretchers D for retaining their shape and keepingthem' flat and smooth.
I claim as my invention- The combination, with a necktie-bow, of a stretcher D, formed of a single piece of wire bent centrally to form a square end and parallel sides, which are afterward inwardly disposed to form a pointed end to conform to the edges of the necktieflap c, and a base E, which is jointed to the square end of the stretcher and located within its sides for retaining the shape of the necktie and keeping it flat and smooth, substantially asshown and described.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. ASHWVORTH.
