HEINRICH ENG EL, OF LEOBSOHUTZ, GERMANY.
DEVICE FOR SECURING VElLS TO HATS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 637,503, dated November 21, 1899. Application filed February 1, 1899. Serial No. 704,190. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH EN GEL, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at Leobschiitz, in Upper Silesia, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices to Secure Veils to Ladies Hats, of which the following is a specification.
Hitherto ladies veils have been secured to hats or bonnets by simply tying the ends or by tightening a cord or thread at the upper edge. This method is very inconvenient and does not improve the appearance of the veil.
The present invention consists of a device by means of which a veil can be very conveniently and safely secured to a hat or bonnet of any kind.
Upon the accompanying drawings, representing this invention, Figure l is a plan of the device. Fig. 2 is a front view somewhat from above. Fig. 3 is a section on line w 00 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 shows the application of the device to a hat.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts.
As Will be seen from the drawings, the device consists, substantially, of a plate A, of either base or precious metal, which is constructed as light as possible and preferably bent or curved to suit the rim of the hat or bonnet for which it is intended, to the one edge of which metal plate A a number of small pins or are secured, which serve for securing the plate in position. Upon the side opposed to that to which the pins are secured a row of teeth I) is arranged. By laying the veil over this row of teeth the fine lacework is caught by the series of projections, and the veil is thus effectively secured.
The teeth can be made of any desired height to suit various kinds of hats or bonnets.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A device to secure veils to hats or bonnets, consisting of a plate A having a series of'upwardly-projecting teeth along one edge, and one or more pins or projections (1 attached to the opposite side of the plate near the op posite edge and projecting forwardly in the direction of said teeth, and adapted to pierce the material of a hat or bonnet, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
HEINRICH ENGEL.
