Description
y ful Improvements in Baskets, of which the NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRITS JEPSEN AND` HERMAN JEPSEN, OFUHICAGO, ILLlNOIS.
BASKET'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of' Letters Patent No. 470,680, dated March 15, 1892.
Application `iiled June 15,1891. Serial No. 396.272. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.:
Beit known that we, FRITS J EPSEN and HER- MAN JEPSEN, citizens of Den mark, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefollowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a parthereof, and in which- Figure l is a vertical axial section of one of the improved baskets of preferred form. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof with portions broken away. Fig. 3 is a partial plan view of one of the improved baskets of slightlymodied form. y
The object of our present invention is to improve, simplify, and cheapen the construction of baskets, and especially to provide a basket of such form that it can be advantageously made of metal.
The invention consists in certain features of novelty that are particularly pointed out. in the claim hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the bottom, formed of two disks a a, occupying parallel planes, and B E represent the staves of which the sides are formed, the lower ends of which project between the disks a a and aretliere secured by rivets b b or other suitable fasteners. The staves taper toward their lower ends more or less, according to the shape it is desired that the basket shall have, and their adjacent margins overlap each other slightly, so that there shall be no spaces bewater. The upper ends of all the staves project between two bands C and C', the bands and staves being all secured together by rivets c or other suitable fasteners. One of these bands-say the outer one C-extends upward slightly above the other and above "the ends of the staves, and its edge is spun over them, as shown at c', for giving the top edge of the basket a finished appearance. We prefer to construct the bottom, the staves, and the bands of sheet metal and secure them together by rivets; but we believe that our invention is not necessarily limited to that material.
Having thus described our invention, the following is what We claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
As anew article of manufacture, a basket having its bottom formed ot' a pair of disks d a, sides formed of a number of tapering staves B B, overlapped at their meeting edges and having their lower ends secured between said disks, and the bands C C', between which the upper ends of said staves are secured, the upper edge of one of said bands being turned over the other, substantially as set forth.
FRITS J EPSEN. HERMAN J EPSEN.
