Description

(No Model.)
T. A. PERRY.
PIPE HOLDER.
Patented De022. 1891.
' UNITED TATES PATENT OFFICE;
' THEODORE A. PERRY, OF NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.
PIPE-HoLDER;
SPECIFICATION foxming part of Letters Patent No. 465,727, dated December 22, 1891.
Application filed March 18, 1891. erial NO. 385,516. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEoDoRn A. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to pipe-holders; and my object is to provide an article of this Character which Will be tasty and neat in ap-A pearance, durable in use, and cheap to man ufacture.
In the accornpanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 a sectional elevation thereof.
The numeral 1` indicates an ordinary pipebowl, held in position by any suitable means, in this instance by an eagle-claw 2, which is secured in any preferable manner to a baseplate 3. The pipe is provided with a suitable top piece 4, which is hinged to the base-plate 3'by means of an ordinary light hinge. At the side of the top piece 4 is a small projection orshoulder 5, to which is secured 1n any desired manner a spiral or other convenient form of spring 7, which is also fastened to the base-plate. This spring 7 serves to keep the pipe -top in position, thereby preventing sparks from the pipe from being scattered over the clothes or person of the smoker, and at the same time, from the manner in which it is secured to the pipe, does not prevent said top from being readily raised and kept open when desired-at such times, for instance, as When lighting or filling the bowl of the pipe.
From the bowl of the pipe a fiexible stem 8 projects, terminating in a suitable monthpiece 9.
The numeral 6 indicates a hook secured to the base-plate in such a manner that it will serve to hold the fiexible stem of the pipe when not in use. i
10 indicates a pin secured to the back portion of the base-plate, designed to be inserted in the garment of the smoker, thereby holding the pipe in position on the breast of the user.
From the above description it will be seen that I have thus provided a pipe that maybe used without the aid of the smokeris hands, and at the same time take a great straiin from the month of the user, in that the pipe is held by the base-plate, which, as previously stated, is pinned to the garment of the user.
I-laving thus fully described my invention, What I claim herein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A pipe holder comprising a base-piece provided with means at the back thereof for securing it to the wearing-apparel, a seat for the bowl, and a hook located below the bowlseat for holding the siem of the pipe while not in use. V
2. A pipe-holder comprising a basepiece,
means for securing it to Ithe Wearing-apparel, 4
a curved seat for the bowl, and a cover hinged to the base-plate.
3. A base-plate provided with means for securing to the wearing-apparel a pronged pipe-seat, and a hook for holding the siem when not iu use, located below the bowl-seat, a cover hinged to said base, and a spring for holding the cover down, said parts being adapted for use in connection with a pipe, as Set forth.`
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two'witnesses.
TI-IEODORE A. PERRY.
