UNITED STATES FCEe PATENT LADYS HANDKERCHIEF-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 597,636, dated January 18, 1898.
Application filed August 27,1897. "serial No. 64=9,747. on model.)
To nsZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, Onnrsrornnn O. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Napanock, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Handkerchief- Ilolders; and I do hereby declare the followin g to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a novel handkerchief or other similar supporter, the object being to provide a simple, inexpensive, and ornamental device designed to be readily attaohed to the belt or other portion of the apparel and to support a handkerchief or the like in a manner which will permit the ready attachment or detachment of the holder.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a connection between the holder proper and the device for securing the same that movement between the parts will be permitted, which will permit the holder to swing with the movement of the body and thus prevent the possible injury that might result from the wearer constantly stooping if the device were made in one rigid piece.
To the accomplishment of this and other objects subordinate thereto my invention consists in providing a securing-plate having an ordinary safety-pin by means of which it may be secured and a pair of pendent links supporting a holder of peculiar construction.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a general. view showing the application of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view thereof, looking toward the holder-face. Fig. 3 is a section on the line m 13 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the numerals on the drawings, 1 indicates the securing case, preferably somewhat elongated and provided upon its rear side with a spring-pin 2 and a keeper 3, designed to receive the end of the pin.
4 and 5 indicate a pair of apertures in the plate 1,adj acent to its lower edge and designed to receive a pair of pendent links 6, passing through apertures 7 in the substantially up per portion 8 of the holder 9, which is preferably stamped in a flat piece of metal to form such circular portion 8, and a pendent retracted portion 10, the latter being in general outline substantially pear-shaped and provided with a circular opening 11, having a downwardly-converging extension 12, the inner edges of the holder being beveled upon the rear face in order to provide comparatively sharp edges designed to facilitate the securing of the handkerchief or other article.
In use the end of the handkerchief is passed through the large part of the opening and is drawn down into the narrow extension. By reason of the link connection between the supporting-plate on the holder the latter is capable of a pivotal movement and may be moved laterally a sufficient extent to accomplish the desired object.
While the present embodiment of my invention appears at this time to be preferable,
I do not desire to limit myself to the struc- 7o tural details set forth, but reserve the right to change, modify, or vary them at will within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with an elongated supporting-plate provided with a spring-pin and keeper, of a pair of pendent links passed through apertures in the supporting-plate, and a substantially pear-shaped holderpro vided with an enlarged opening having a pair of retracted extensions and a pair of apertures in'the upper end of theholder designed for the reception of the pendent links, the inner edges of said holder being beveled upon ghe rear face thereof, substantially as speci- In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib- 9 ing witnesses.
CHRISTOPHER O. DAVIS.
