T FISHELF GHA-TELAINE HOLDER (Application filed May 6, 1901.)
("0 Model.)
IL INVENTOR w erazijlzmez HIS ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE H. FISHEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HENRY W. FISHEL AND THEODORE H. FISHEL, OOPARTNERS DOING BUSINESS AS FISHEL, NESSLER & (30., OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHATELAlNE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 690,569, dated January 7, 1902. Application filed May 6, 1901. Serial No. 58,857. (No modell) T aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEODORE H. FISHEL, of the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ohatelaine-Holders,of
which the following is a specification.
My improvement is especially intended for fastening what is ordinarily known as a chatelaine to the edge of a ladys belt; but
:0 it is applicable to other pendants.
The improvement consists in the combination, with a hook for hooking over the edge of an article of wear, suchas a belt or the outer edge of a pocket or skirt band, of a front piece provided with a device for engaging a chatelaine orother pendant and provided with a part for coacting with the hook to secure the said hook to the belt or other article. Preferably there will also be combined with the hook and front piece a detent for holding them in their cooperative relation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of a portion of a ladys belt and of an article embodying my invention attached thereto, but not secured. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the parts of the article embodying myinvention secured-in cooperative relation. Fig. 3 is a back view of the article embodying my invention. Fig; 4 is an edge view of 3 0 the same.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
, Referring to the drawings, A designates a hook, here shown as made by bending a flat and comparatively wide strip of metal be tween its ends, so as to form two approximately parallel limbs a o The limb a is pivotally connected by a pin a to a front piece B, which on the outer or front side may 40 be of any ornamental design. Near the point where the hook A is secured to the front piece B the latter is provided with a device 0 for engaging a chatelaine or other pendant. As here shown, this device is in the form of a hook and is rigidly secured to the front. The front piece is also provided with a part for securing the hook after it has been slipped over the top edge of a ladys belt or the edge of a pocket or anything of that sort. As here shown, this part consists of a rearwardly- 5o turned hook D, and the limb a of the hook A opposite the part D is concaved, so that the material maybe pinched or firmly gripped between the two parts. The ring of a chatelaine is slipped over the device 0, and the hook A is slipped over the top edge of abelt or the edge of a pocket or something of that sort. Afterward the front piece is swung up wardly into the proper position, and thus the device 0 and the part D will be brought 68 up into such position that the material engaged by the hook will be pinched or clamped or otherwise tightly secured between the part D and the hook A. At the same time the hook A will prevent the detachment of the chatelaine from the device 0. Preferably the cooperative relation between the parts will be secured by means of a catch securing the hook A and front piece B from any inde' pendent swinging motion. This may consist 76 of a projection on the rear of the front piece B and a hole in the upper part of the limb d of the hook A, the resilience of the hook be-- ing such as to maintain an engagement of the n hole with the projection.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a hook for hooking over an article of wear formed by bending a flat piece, a front piece pivoted to one of the legs 86 of said hook, a device for engaging a chatelaine rigidly connected with said front piece,- and means carried by said device for engaging the other leg of the hook and coacting therewith to hold the material, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THEODORE H. FISHEL.
