CHARLES LEHMANN AND EDW'ARD BRUNIIOFF, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FILE-RACK..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,252, dated September 29, 1891. Application iiled January 9, 1891. Serial No. 377,245. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, it may cou/cern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES LEHMANN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and EDWARD BRUNHOEF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in File-Racks, which is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a file-rack composed of two or more sections embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of one of the sections of the le-rack detached with the boxes removed. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of a iile-rack composed of two or more sections taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Our invention relates to the construction of detachable file-racks or receptacles for receiving and holding boxes containing drugi gists prescriptions or other papers; and our invention consists in constructing said iilerack in detachable sections, so that the lerack may be built up or reduced by adding such detachable sections thereto or taking them away, as may be desired; and our invention also consists in constructing such detachable sections in such manner that they can be readily and securely placed together in said file-rack so as to form the same, or they can be removed therefrom, as may be desired; and our invention also consists in various other improvements in such sections, as hereinafter more particularly described.
A are detachable or removable sections, preferably made of sheet metal. Each of these sections is composed of upper and lower parts, B representingvthe upper part and C the lower. Each of these parts is preferably cnt or stamped out of one piece of sheet metal, as shown in the drawings, having front and rear strips ot and b, with cross strips c, forming the frame of the parts B and C; or they may be made of separate pieces, constituting the front and rear strips, connected together by cross-pieces; but a more convenient wav is to stamp each one of them out of one piece of sheet metal. These upper and lower parts are connected by standards E, preferably of sheet metal, the standards at the rear corners forming a square corner and the other standards being straight pieces of sheet-iron, all of said standards being soldered to the upper and lower parts for the purpose of rigidly securing them together. At the rear and two ends of each of these parts of the section the pieces of sheet metal are turned up, forming a ange e, and the front strip of the lower part of the section lies iiat, the upper one being turned over and forming a lip d for the insertion of the lower front strip of the section immediately above. These detachable sections are exactly alike in their construction, and when it is desired to place them together' the front lower strip is inserted in the lower lip d, and afterward the remainder of the section is let down within the flanges on the other three sides, thus securely fastening the upper section within the lower section; or the two are fastened together. By constructing these sections in this manner We are enabled to form a series of sections, more or less, as may be desired, which may be rapidly and securely fastened together in the manner above described, or may be readily detached one from the other, and into which may be placed the boxes D, which are usually of paper and constructed in any form desired. These sections may be of any size desired, and may consist of any number.
I-Iavin g thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a file-rack, the detachable section A, composed of upper and lower parts B and C, having strips d and h, flanges e, lip d', and standards E, substantially as shown and described.
2. A iile-rack composed of `detachable sections A, so constructed and adapted to each other that said ileerack may be built up by adding such detachable sections thereto, or may be reduced by taking such sections therefrom, substantially as shown and described.
8. In a file-rack, the detachable section A, in combination with the boxes D, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
