Description

(No Model.)
A. K. EVANS.
POKER CHIP 0R COUNTER HOLDER.
No. 451,722. Patented May 5,1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE...
ARTHUR K. EVANS, OF TORONTO, CANADA.
POKER CHIP OR COUNTER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,722, dated May 5, 1891.
Application filed June 25, 1890. Serial No. 356,714.. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, ARTHUR KELLY EVANS, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Poker Chip or Counter Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to design a table-holder for poker chips or counters, the said holder being arranged to indicate the number of chips or counters contained by it and to present the additional advantages of match and cigar-ash receptacles; and it conslsts in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described, and then definitely claimed. Figures 1 and 2 are alternative forms of my nnproved poker chip or counter holder. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail showing a plan for holding a detachable indicator.
Any one who ever played poker or other games where counters are required will appreciate the advantages of a device for holding the poker chips or counters in a convenient form which will enable the said chips or counters to be readily taken out as required, leaving a register to indicate the number of chips or counters remaining in the holder.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
In Fig. 1 I show the recesses with solid walls arranged vertically, but leaning or slanting slightly inwardly from their base. In Fig. 2 I show the recesses with skeleton walls arranged so that the chips they are intended to contain will, as in Fig. 1, slant inwardly from their base. 4
The recesses A are curved to correspond with the diameter of the poker chips or counters B.
while in Fig. 3 they are horizontally parallel to each other.
In Fig. 1 I show behind each wall a, at the point where the adjoining walls connect, a Vertical receptacle 1), designed to contain matches, and in the center of the stand Iform a receptacle cl, into which the cigar-ashes may be knocked.
The indicator C may be marked 011 the edge of the walls adjoining the recesses; but as the chips or counters are sometimes made one thickness and sometimes a different thickness, according to the taste of the manufacturer, it is advisable to provide means by which the indicator may be readily changed.
In Fig. 3 I show a plan for holding a removable indicator. In this plan I make a dovetail groove on the wall adjoining the recesses, and insert in the said groove the indicator C, which in this case I make of celluloid or some other thin material. In this way I am enabled to provide each chip or counter holder with indicators for chips or counters of different thicknesses.
It will be observed that in Figs. 1 and 2 the base D, on which the bottom chip or counter of each recess rests, is set at an angle, so as to cant the chips or counters at the necessary angle to throw them toward the center line of the holder.
What I claim as my invention is l. A poker chip or counter holder composed of a series of receptacles arranged around a common center and constructed to contain an independent row of chips or counters, and each receptacle having an opening in its outer side, substantially as described.
2. A poker chip or counter holder composed of a series of receptacles arranged around a common center and constructed to contain an independentrow of chips or counters, and each receptacle having an opening in its outer side, and a match'receptacle formed in the center of said holder, substantially as described.
3. A poker chip or counter holder con1- posed of a series of recesses A, arranged around a common center and constructed to contain an independent row of chips or counters, a match-receptacle b, and an ashreceptacle (7 both being contained in the space inclosed by said holder, substantially slanting wall of its recess, substantially as and for the purpose specified. and for the purpose specified.
at. A poker chip or counter holder con1- Toronto,May 10,1890. posed of a series of vertical recesses arranged ARTHUR K. EVANS. 5 around and slanting toward a common een- In presence of ter, the base of each recess being set sub- CHARLES C. BALDWIN,
stantially at a right or acute angle to the E. CUMMINGS.
