GAME DEVICE.

Be it known that I, LEsLiE MONROE PARKER, `a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented cer-tain new and useful improvements in Garne Devices, for which the following is a full, concise, and exact description.

This invention relates to a gaine device, and particularly toa device adapted for use vbot-h during the playing of a game and while the game is not being played. It thus serves as an accessory device for playing the game and as a` storage device or receptacle for the pieces with which t-he game is played. It has for one object to provide a retaining and displaying rack upon which the game pieces may be positioned and within which the counters may be held, and which `may also be used as a storage device for both the game pieces and the counters and other game parts when the gaine is not being played. Another object is to provide means for associating together a plurality of such racks to form a storage receptacle.. Another object is to provide means for fastening together a plurality of such racks. Other objects will appear from time to time throughout the specification and claims.

My invention is illustrated more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

A is a vrack or tray. It is formed as shown with a closed-sided pocket or cavity A1 which is formed of a plurality of cavities made by means of partitions A2. is provided with an open-sided pocket B. This pocket is preferably. formed in the shape of an open-sided trough with sides inclined to horizontal, and serves when the game is being played as aV receptacle within which the gamepieces may be held and inclined so as to be visible only lto the player.

In the form illustrated herewith each of the racks is provided preferably at its center and on the same side as the open-sided pocket or trough with a half-rounded p0rtion C. When the portions of 'the rack are fastened together as shown in Figure 4, the half-rounded portions@ are in register with each other and thus form a round perforation through the center of the resulting double drawer or tray.

Two of the racks are preferably provided in their under side with a cavity C1 which may be provided adjacent its outer edge with a deepened portion C2. rIhis cavity C1 C2 may be of any shape but l prefer to have it angular.

li have provided along one side of each of the racks an engaging device which may be of any suitable form. The form illustra-ted herewith is formed of a spring engaging assembly. Each of said Aassemblies includes a penetrating and a surrounding part. prefer to put each of the penetrating parts D, D on one member and to put the surrounding parts D1 D1 on the other member. The details of these parts are not shown vas they form no part of the present invention. It is suiiic-ient to use any one of many well known types of snap fasteners for this purpose.. By means of the use of these, two trays or racks may be assembled and removably fastened vtogether vso as to form in eiiect a double tray or drawer.

E is a joining and fastening bolt. It is preferably provided with a flat head E1 which has in its outer edges upturned portions E2. rIhe head E1 lies. generally within the cavity Ci in the bottom of lthe racks and the upturned portions E2 lie within the deepened portion C2 of the cavity C, The bolt E is threaded ait its upper end at E3 and is adapted to receive a threaded handle E4.

F is a cover plate adapted to extend over a. pair of rack-s and to serve as a cover for the upper pair. It is perforated to receive the bolt E and is preferably vprovided, around the perforation with a wearing part F1 against which the handle E? is seated when the parts are drawntogether in the closed position shown in Figures 3 and 4.

In order to assure proper seating and register of the racks when they are assembled as shown in Figures 4 and 8, the outer wall portion of each rack is preferably provided with an inwardly sloping bevelled i edge G, and some or all otthe racks are provided on their bottom with a corresponding bevelled portion G1. This bevelled portion may be omitted from the bottom set of racks or it may be included. The cover plate F is correspondingly bevelled on its under side so as to tit into and register with the upper pair of racks. By means of these co-operating bevelled faces the racks positively register and it is impossible to assemble them in imp-roper order. `Zhen drawn together by mea-ns of the central bolt they are firmly held together.

The use and operation of my invention are as follows:

Then it is desired to play the game, the unit racks are separated and the counting devices may be stored within the closed sided pockets for the use of the player. The game pieces which the player holds are placed in an inclined position on the opensided facing the player. lhen the parts are to be put away, the pairs of racks are snapped together or otherwise separably iastened together in the position shown particularly in Fig. 2, and in that position the game pieces are preferably placed in the closed-sided pocket and the counters and other game devices used are placed in the additionally formed long central trough. This trough constitutes a closed sided-pocket formed of a pair of open-sided pockets in a single rack.

After the racks are fastened together, the bottom pair is placed over the bolt so that the bevel extends upwardly through the perforation. The next pair is placed upon the first pair also having the bolt pass through it and by reason of the bevel arrangement the parts are readily and positively centered and register with respect to each other. The cover plate is then put on top of the pile, the handle is screwed in position on the pile and the parts are all held together and they form thus in effect a box containing the racks necessary for use when the game is being played and all of the game pieces."

I have shown four racks. Two could be used or any number could be used. I-Iowever, as the game for which this device is particularly adapted is played at present, four racks will be used.

While I have shown one method of fastening the four raclrs together, I do not wish to be limited to it. Many other methods of fastening the racks together might be used. The b olt need not be used. The handle need not come on the top of the pile of racks. The racks might be inserted as drawers in a box provided for them in the manner described and shown in my pending application Serial Number 682,388 i'iled December 24, 1923, and many other changes might be made in size, shape and arrangement ole parts with out departing materially 'from the spirit o' my invention.

I claim;

l. A game device including in combination a plurality of unit rack members, means for separably` joining pairs of such unit rack members in their normal upright position, and means for separably assembling together a plurality of such pairs o t mem bers.

2. As a new article of manufacture a game device comprising racks adapted for use during' the playing of a game, means for separably joining together pairs ot such racks to form storage devices for the game pieces, and means for separably assembling together a plurality oi said composite storage devices.

3. A game device including in combination a plurality of unit rack members, means for separably joining pairs oit such unit rack members, and means for separably securing together a plurality of such pairs of members, in combination with a cover plate.

4. As a new article ot manufacture a game device comprising racks adapted for use during the playing of a` game, means for separably joining together pairs of such racks to form one storage device ilor the game pieces, and means for separably assembling together a plurality of said composite storage devices so that each upper member forms a cover for the one beneath it.

5. As a new article of manufacture a game device comprising racks adapted for use during the playing of a game, means for separably joining together pairs of' such racks t0 form a storage device for the game pieces, and means for separably assembling together a plurality of said compositie storage devices so that each upper member forms acover for the one beneath it, in combination with a cover plate adapted to serve as a cover for the uppermost storage device.

6. A game device including in combination a plurality of unit racks, each of said racks having a closed-sided pocket and an open-sided pocket, means for separably joining pairs ot' such rack members, and means for separably assembling together a plurality of such pairs of members.

7. A game device including in combination a plurality of unit rack members, each of said members having a closedssided pocket and an open-sided pocket, means for separably joining pairs of such rack members together whereby the open-sided pockets are brought together to form an additional closed-sided pocket, and means for separably assembling together a plurality of such pairs of members.

8. A game device including in combination a plurality of unit rack members, each of said members having a closed-sided pocket Cil and an opensided pocket,pmeans for separably joining pairs of such rack members together whereby the opensided pockets are brought together to form an additional closed-sided pocket, and means for separably securing together a plurality of such pairs of members one on top of the other.

9. A game device including in combina tion a plurality of unit rack members, each 3f said members having a closed-sided pocket and an open-sided pocket, means for separably joining pairs of such rack members together whereby the open-sided pockets are brought together to form an additional closed-sided pocket, and means for separably securing` together a plurality of such pairs of members one on top of the other, and a cover plate adapted to rest upon the uppermost of such pairs of members.

10. A game device including in combination a plurality of unit rack members, each of said members having a closed-sided pocket and an open-sided pocket, means for separably joining pairs of such rack mem- Jers together whereby the open-sided pockets are brought together to form an additional closed-sided pocket, and means for separably securing together a plurality of such pairs of members one on top ot the other, and a bolt adapted to extend from top to bottom of the assembled pairs of members, in combination with a handle adapted to draw and hold the members together upon the bolt and to serve as a carrying handle for the assembled rack members.

A game device including in combination a plurality of unit rack members, each of said members having a closed-sided pocket and an open-sided pocket, means for separably joining pairs of suoli rack members together whereby the open-sided pockets are brought together to form an additional closed-sided pocket, and means for separably securing together a plurality of such pairs of members one on top oit the other and a cover plate adapted to rest upon the uppermost oi" such pairs of members, and a bolt adapted to extend from top to bottom of the assembled pairs ot' members, in Combination with a handle adapted to draw and hold the members together upon the bolt and to serve as a carrying handle for the as sembled rack members.
