GAME DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, I918.
Application filed January 25, 1918. Serial No. 213,693.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD W. MGCAR- ROLL, residing at Pittsburgh, in. the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, a citizen of the United States, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Game Devices, of which improvements the following is a specification.
In playing games, such as various species of poker, wherein counters of various assigned values are deposited or set aside by each player during the course of the game, it is frequently diflicult, when sufficient counters have not been deposited or anteed, to determine which player failed to make his deposit.
The object of my invention is to provide a game device whereby the foregoing difficulty may be eliminated.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings which form part of my specification, I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention. Figure 1 is a plan view of the game device; Fig. 2 a sectional view taken on the line IIII, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 a perspective view of a detail of construction.
The game device which I provide, in the practice of my invention, comprises a plate provided with adjustable means for dividing one of its faces into different numbers of counter-depositing areas, the number of such areas depending upon the number of players in the game, there being one counterdepositing area for each player. Preferably the face of the plate is so divided by means of a plurality of bars extending from the center to the edge of the plate, and adjustable in the manner and for the purpose stated.
While the device may be variously constructed, the preferred embodiment thereof is shown in the drawings. -The plate 1 may be circular in form and made of a rigid material, such as light metal, fiber-board, etc, both sides being preferably faced with suitable layers of felt 2. Instead of a layer of felt, cushioning buttons 8 may be secured to the lower face of the plate. The areadividing bars 3 may consist of strips of rigid material suitably provided at their inner ends with detents 4 whereby the bars may be readily engaged by and between nuts 5 and 6 threaded upon a screw 7 extending through the center of the plate. By such construction, the bars 3 may be separately adjusted, removed from or added to the plate to divide its face into areas corre sponding to the number of players in a game.
In using the device, for example in a game of poker wherein each player must ante or deposit a counter before beginning the playing of each hand, each player is required to place his counter on a designated area. Hence, when it is time to proceed with the playing of a hand, it is readily apparent from a mere inspection of the device, which, if any player has not made his deposit.
According to the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principle and operation of my invention together with the construction which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof. However, I de sire to have it understood that, within the scope of the appended claims, my invention may be practised with other forms of construction than that specifically shown and 7 described herein.
I claim as my invention:
1. A game device comprising a plate, and adjustable means for dividing a face of said plate into different numbers of counter-depositing areas depending upon the number of players in the game.
2. A game device comprising a plate, a plurality of bars extending from the center toward the edge of the plate and dividing a face of the plate into a plurality of counter-depositing areas, and means for adjusting said bars to divide said face into a different number of areas.
3. A game device comprising a plate, a plurality of separately removable and separately adjustable bars extending from the center toward the edge of the plate, and an adjustable clamp for holding said bars in fixed relative positions.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDWARD W. MOGARROLL.
