WILLIAM S. KEMPER, OF MGKEESPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1907.
Application filed November 21, 1906. Serial No. 344,369.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAu S. KEMPER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at McKeesport, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to game apparatus, and its obj ect is to provide a simple and inexpensive device for playing a game involving both skill and chance.
The invention consists in a game device of novel construction which will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification.
1n the drawing, Figure 1 is a view in perspective partly broken away, of a game apparatus embodying the invention, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
The device comprisesa box of rectangular form consisting of a rear wall 1, a front wall 2, sides 3, and a top 4.
The front 2 is formed along its lower edge with a plurality of archshaped openings 5, and from the rear wall 1, project pins 6, arranged in rows and adapted to defloct a marble and direct it through one of the openings 5.
Secured to the lower end of the box is a trough 7, provided with a series of partitions S dividing the trough into compartments 9 corresponding in number to the openings 5, and adapted to receive a marble through said openings.
The front 2 of the box is formed with an opening 10 to receive a funnel 11, the latter being secured by brackets 12 or other suitable fastening means.
The several openings 5 in the front of the box are numbered to indicate the value of the marbles issuing therefrom.
The utility of the device constructed as thus described, Will be readily understood. Two or more players may engage in the game. The first effort of the player will be to shoot a marble into the funnel. After this is accomplished the marble drops between the pins and passes through one of the openings 5 and, into one of the compartments 9. The number corresponding to the compartment into which the player s marble drops represents the players score, and the aggregate count after a predetermined number of plays fixes the-score of the player.
The shooting of the marbles into the funnel with the thumb and fingers involves more or less skill and accuracy an d the course of the marble after it enters the box depends upon chance.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is':-
1. In a game apparatus, the combination with a box having pins projecting from its rear wall, and a front wall formed with openings in its lower portion, of a re ceptacle at the base of the box in front of said openings, and an opening in the upper portion of the front wall of the box for the insertion of a marble.
2. In a game apparatus, the combination with a box' having pins projecting from its rear Wall, and a front wall formed with a series of openings at its base, of a trough projecting from the bottom of the box in front or said openings, and divided by vertical partitions into compartments corresponding in number to the openings, and a funnel fitting an opening formed in the upper portion of the front wall of the box.
2. In a game apparatus, the combination with a box having rows of pins projecting from its rear wall, and a front wall formed along its lower edge with a series of numbered openings, of a trough arranged in front of said openings and divided into separate compartments, and a funnel fitting an opening formed in the front wall of the box centrally of its width and near its upper edge.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the pres ence of two witnesses.
WILLIAMS. KEMPER.
