Be it known that I, CHARLES MILLARD TAY- LOR, cutter, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ballot-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

Hy invention relates more particularly to that class of ballot-boxes which are used in balloting for members in societies, clubs, and other organizations, and for similar purposes,

and has for its object to enable the ballot to i be quickly and accurately taken, with perfect Q secrecy while the voting is progressing, and l at the same time allow the result to be made manifest to the proper oiiicers or to the whole membership when required without disturbing or changing the position of the balls, and

thus preventing all cha-nce of fraud.

To this end my improvements consist,

chieliy, in providing the ballot-box with a narrow chamber oi just sumcient depth from back to front to receive the balls of both colors in single rows, one above the other,

such chamber having a transparent front covered by a flap or slide which may be thrown back and thus disclose at a glance the condition of the ballot. Means for emptying this chamber and a receptacle for loose or spare balls are also included in my invention; but

for full comprehension of the details of con.- struction reference must be had to the accoml panying drawings, forming part of this speciboard, C, extending up from the bottom only a short distance, a slanting top board, D, and a front, E, within which is set a pane ot' glass, F, or other transparent substance, such as clear mica.

The loose or spare balls can be acs commodated in the tray formed by the botl tom B and front and back boards; or a drawer l may be used, if preferred.

l In the ballot-box above described the catch of the hinged bottom of the ball-chamber is released when the balloting is finished, and l the balls in said chamber immediately fall into the tray or drawer below.

I do not limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement above described, and shown in. the drawings, as many variations may be adopted without departing from the essential features of my invention.

lThat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 'is as follows:

l. In a ballot-box, the combination, with a suitable case having an inlet for the balls, of a ball-chamber in communication with said inlet and having a transparent face, aremovable eovering for said face, and a hinged or removable bottom iior said ball-chamber, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

i. In a ballot-box, the combination, with the case, of the glass liront l?, flap L, mouth or funnel (l, ball chamber Il, hinged bottom 7i, and catch La, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
