AXEL K. HATTEBERG, OF MARSHFIELD, VISCONSIN.
vomessi-zia, coMMoDE, am.
sPEcIFIcArIoN farming part of Letters Patent No. 514,929, dated February 20,1894.
- Application tiled April 14, 1892.'y
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AXEL K. I-IATTEBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marshfield, in thev county of Wood, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inDressers, Commodes, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
' My-invention relates tonew and usefuliincommodes, dac., and-consists in the, matters hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention: Figure l is a vertical sectional View of a devicev vconstructed in accordance with my invention, said .section being'taken on line V1--1 of Fig. 2.- Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same taken on line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view. of the same taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. iis an inverted plan view of one of the drawers. Fig. 5 is a'detail plan viewillustrating certain features of construction. i
In saidl drawings:`-A represents the usual top of the dresser or commode, B--B the corner posts to which the cross pieces at the front which the side pieces are also secured in any convenient manner. The top pieces C-C at pieces D-Dare conveniently secured to the posts B B bymeans o fk tongues or tenons c c and d d upon the ends of said crossl pieces gaged within suitable grooves in the sides of' larly in Fig.k 5, of the drawings. These pieces or strips D D are arranged at the top and botside and suitable'panels D D are secured between said strips in the usual planner.
Horizontal strips E E are arranged across the front side of the dresser orv commode and serve to separate the drawers in the usual manner. These vhorizontal strips are pro-l vided at their ends with dove-tail tenons e-e which engage with correspondingly shaped' Serial No, 429,110. (No model.)
recesses b ZJ in the corner posts B B as shown, these recesses being cut into the inner surface of the said posts so as to leave the front or outer surface of said posts intact and strips F F, similar in construction to the strips E E are arranged across the rear of the device, said strips being provided at their ends with dove-tail tenons f f arranged to engage with recesses b hin'the corner posts B B at the back of the device these latter recesses being also cut from the inside surfaces of said posts.
The front strips E E are preferably arranged so as to come iiush at their front edges,
`with the frontv surfaces of thefront corner posts B B as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, more particularly. Drawer supports F F are arranged to extend from the front strips E E to the back stripsF F. as shown, said'strips E and F beingsuitably rabbeted as at e and f so as to provide suitable ledges upon which Y said Y drawer supports `may rest, vandthe ends of p said supports F" are notched so as to permit them to engage with said ledges in such a manner as to leave their upper surfaces flush with the tops of the transverse strips E and F. Upon the upper sides of the drawer supports F F areprovided guide strips F2 F2,
preferably slightly beveled along their inner" 'edgesas shown.
AThe sides of the drawers G G are arranged to slide upon the supports F F in the usual manner, the bottoms g-g thereof being raised slightly above the same, and upon'the bottoms g-g are provided suitable guide strips G G. The strips G G are preferably beveled upon the outer edges to correspond Withl the bevel on theinner edges ot' the strips F2, and are arranged to'engage therewith to guide the drawers in their movements upon the supports F F. The sides `of the drawers are also conveniently arranged to converge toward therear. as shown in Fig. 4.
By the described construction of the drawer support-s and the drawers, the drawers are guided in straight lines when they areopened or closed, the guide strips upon'the supports and the drawers serving to prevent anys'ide movements of the drawers, and servingA to guide the drawers during their entire move- IOO ments, but when they are drawn forward, said drawers being made with their rear ends narrower than their front ends, the sides of the drawers will pass out of engagement with the posts B B which form the sides ot thc drawer openings, thereby insuring the ready withdrawal of the drawers and etfectnally obviating the liability of the drawers binding or sticking, as is a very common occurrence with the ordinary forms of construction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States, is
A dresser, commode, or analogous device comprising vertical corner posts B; horizontally disposed parallel transverse strips E, F, extended between said posts at the front and rear of the device, with drawer supports F', connecting said front and rear strips, extending between them and secured thereto; bev- In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Marshfield, in the county of Wood and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two Witnesses.
