UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR ROBINSON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,909, dated May 13, 1890.
Application filed January 6, 1890 Serial No. 336,009. (No model.)
-To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, EDGAR ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress Collars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shirt-collars which can be attached to and detached from the neckband of an ordinary shirt; and it has for its object to provide a collar with novel means whereby the tendency to rise on the neckband at opposite sides of the central front fastening is effectually avoided.
To accomplish this object my invention involves the features of construction and the combination or arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claim, Ieference being made to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shirtcollar embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken on the line o@ Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a portion of a collar, showing a modification of the supplemental inside fastening; and Fig. 4 is a similar view showing another Inodification.
In order to enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invent-ion, I will now describe the same in detail, referring to the drawings, wherein- The numeral l indicates a collar which is designed for attachment to and detachment from the neckband of an ordinary shirt. The collar is adapted to engage a central front fastening 3, composed of a button, and one end of the collar is formed with a tongue-extension 2 to connect with a supplemental fastening projecting laterally from the inside of the collar near the end thereof which is opposite the extremity having the tongue-extension. The supplemental inside fastening may be composed of a button 4, engaging the collar and having a loop-shank located inside the collar and projecting laterally therefrom to receive the tongue-extension 2, as in Figs. l and 2. In Fig. 3 the supplemental inside fastening is shown as composed of a laterallyprojecting pocket 6, made upon the inside of the collar to receive the extremity of the ton gue-extension, While in Fig. 4 the supplemental fastening is formed by the laterallyprojecting button S; but this is not so convenient as the loop-shank or the pocket. The ton gue-extension by engaging a supplemental fastening inside the collar at a point remote from the central front fastening 3 effectually prevents the collar rising at opposite sides of the latter, and therefore a comfortable article is provided, which is very desirable.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- A collar adapted for attachment to and detachment from the neekband of a shirt by a central front fastening and having near one end a supplemental laterally-proj ecting inside fastening and at the opposite end a tongueextension to engage such supplemental fast` ening inside the collar at a point remote from the central front fastening for preventing the collar rising at opposite sides of the said front fastening, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDGAR ROBINSON. 7Witnesses:
C. W. MILES, T. SIMMONS.
