Be it known that I, EDUARD J. RYERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have Yinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocks; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a stock or neckband.

The object of the invention is to provide a stock or neckband with a buttonhole-strip along its lower edge and at one end, the buttonholes of which are worked into the strip at those points in its length where itis adapted to be attached to a shirt or shirt-waist, whereby the mode of attachment of the stock or neckband will be concealed or invisible.

With this and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts,which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a plan view of a stock embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on line :con of Fig. l, showing the stock attached to the collar-band of a shirt or shirt-waist by a button; andFig. 3 isa longitudinalsectional viewr of the meeting ends of the stock, showing both ends connected to the shirt or shirt-waist collar-band by a button.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, l denotes a stock,which may be of any well known or approved construction, and 2 denotes the buttonhole-strip, which is doubled upon itself and has its free edge stitched to the inner face or side of the stock at a point above its lower edge, as indicated at 2,'

and has one end turned upwardly and stitched to one end of the stock at a point inward of that end and designated 2X. The strip thus forms a longitudinal flap and a vertical Hap, one extending the full length of the collar and located at its lower edge and the other extending substantially the height of the collar and located at one end thereof. The strip is provided with a suitable number of buttonholes-for instance, one at point a to receive the button at the front of the shirt or shirt-waist collar-band, one at b at one end of the stock, and one at c at the opposite end of the stock below the vertical iiap.

To apply the stock, the buttonhole a is engaged with the button at the front of the collar-band of the garment. The stock is then brought around the neck and the buttonhole c engaged with the button at the rear of the collar-band, and the other end of the stock is brought around the neck and inserted between the'vertical flap and that end of the stock and the buttonhole b engaged with the button. that all the buttons are concealed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A stock, in combination withabuttonholestrip secured to the inner face of the stock at a point above its lower edge and having one end extending at right anglesfrom the body portion and secured to the stock ata distance from one of its ends, whereby is produced a longitudinal and a vertical flap, said strip being provided with buttonholes, substantially as set forth.
