UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE. il
EDWIN MORGENROTH, OF BOLTGNVILLE, WYISCONSIN.
HAM E-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,596, dated May 13, 1890.
Application filed January l0, 1890. Serial No. 336,494. (No modell) To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN MORGENEOTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boltonville, in the county of Washington and State of Visconsin, have invented a new and useful Haine-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in haine-fasteners.
The object of the present invention :is to simplify and improve the construction of hamefasteners and enable the haines to be quickly secured together and separated and adj usted to different-sized collars. l
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangementof parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a haine-fastener constructed in accordance with the invention. `Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View. A Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the sections or straps.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a section or strap constructed of metal and provided at one end with a hook 2,
' that is designed to engage the ring of one ot a pair of hames and having at its other end integral box-loops 3 and et, that are arranged upon the upper face and provide a casing to receive the other section or strap 5 of the The section or strap l has secured to its lower face a spring 6, that is slightly curved and conforms to the adjacent section and has its free end terminating in a depending handle or thumb-piece 7. The spring is provided on its upper face, near its free end, with a pin 8, that extends through a perforation 9 of the strap or` section and has its ends beveled and adapted to engage openings 10 of the section or strap 5, whose end is provided with a hook 11, similar to the hook 2 of the other section or strap. The openings 10 are shouldered in one direction and have their opposite walls inclined and adapted to engage the beveled end of the pin S, whereby the sections are adapted to be readily moved together to tighten the haines. The sections may quickly be disengaged by drawing the spring 6 away from the section or strap, and in order to guide the spring the section or strap 1 is provided with a depending loop 12, that is preferably formed integral with the sections or straps and serves to protect the handle of the spring G and prevent the sections being accidentally separated.
In order to facilitate the operation of the device and enable the sections to be readily separated or moved upon each other to tighten the haines, they are provided, near their hooked ends with depending thumb-pieces 18 and 1li, the latter of which, when the parts are assembled, serves as a guard for the sprin an d prevents the latter being drawn away and the parts separated by an animal rubbing against a fence-post or other surface.
It will readily be seen that the haine-fast ener is simple and inexpensive in construction, adapted to be readily connected to the ordinary form of haine, and capable of being readily operated to tighten or separate the hame.
Having described my invention, what I claim is In a hame-fastener, the combina-tion of the section 1, provided on its upper face with the loops 3 and tand havi ngthe dependingloop 12, the section 5, provided with a series ot openings 10, shouldered in one direction and having their opposite walls inclined, the spring secured to the lower face of the section 1 and terminating in a handle and provided with a beveled pin S, adapted to engage the openings of the section 5, and the thumb-pieces or handles 13 and 14, one of said thumlrpieces being arranged to guard the spring when the parts are assembled, snbstan tially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aiiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDVIN IWIORGENROTH.
