Description
(No Model.)
' G. J. WALBRIDGE.
HALTER.
Patented July 8,1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGEJ. WALBRIDGE, OF COLBY, WISCONSIN.
HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 431,828, dated J'uly 8, 1890.
Application filed March 7, 1890- Serial No. 342,962. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. WALBRIDGE, of Colby, in the county of Clark and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to halters; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and'combination of parts to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a halter constructed according to my invention, and Figs. 2 to 6, inclusive, are detail views showing various portions of the halter.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents the headstall of a halter made from leather or other suitable non-metallic material and covered with a chain B of iron, steel, or other suitable metal. The chain covering B of the headstall is preferably held in place by arch-shaped plates 1) and rivets 0, arranged at suitable intervals and as best illustrated in Fig. 3. The rivets pass through said headstall, chain covering, and arch-shaped plates, the ends of each of these plates being held against the headstall on opposite sides of thejuncture of two links of the chain. In addition to the plates b and rivets c, I employ staples d to secure the terminals'of the chain covering to the free ends of the cheek and nose straps. At the points where the throat and nose straps intersect the cheek-straps of the headstall the chain covering of one is linked to the chain covering of the other, and the chain covering of the jaw-strap is likewise connected to that of the throat-strap and the ring 0, that unites said jaw and nose strap.
The buckle-connected ends of the nose and cheek straps are secured by padlocks D, that unite the buckles and chain covering on the adjustable ends of said straps, and the halter cannot be unfastened or cut, and thus an animal hitched with said halter is safe against thieves or mischievous persons.
.WVhile I have described the metallic covering as being preferably in thefo'rm of a chain, I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to this exact form.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A halter comprising a headstall, having cheek, throat, nose, and jaw straps, buckles on the cheek and nose straps, a covering of metallic chain on each of the straps, the several coverings linked together, and padlocks connecting the buckles with the chain coverin g on the strap ends that engage said buckles, substantially as set forth.
2. A halter-headstall having each of its straps provided with a covering of metallic chain, the several coverings linked together, padlocks passed through the buckles of said headstall and the chain covering on the ends of the straps engaged with said buckles, the halter-chain linked to the ring connecting the jaw and nose straps of the headstall, and a padlock for securing the tie-loop of the chain, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Colby, in the county of Clark and State of Wisconsin, in
the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE J. WVALBRIDGE.
