Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LIBERTY JOHNSON MINTON, OF NORBORNE, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT lN HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,033, dated 04130561 20, 1874 application filed December 13, 1873. 4
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, LIBERTY J. MINTON, of Norhorne, in the county of Carroll and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harries, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a front view of my improved hames.
My invention has for its object to furnish improved hanies, which shall be simple in construction, light, strong, and durable, easily adjusted, fastened, and unfastened.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A are the hames. B is an eye attached to the lower end of one of the hames, and to which the end of a chain, O, is secured. The other end of the chain 0 is hooked upon a hook, D, attached to the lower end of the other hame A. E is a spring; F, an eye and two notched straps. I is a lever, which has a thumb-piece formed upon it for convenience in operating it, and against which rests a spring, J. To the inner edge of the upper end of each of the haines A is attached the upper end of a half-U-spring, K, the lower ends of which overlap each other, and are designed to rest upon the upper end of the collar to support the hames in place. L is a staple attached to the hames A, to receive the neckyoke-strap ring M and the trace-hook N. O is a guard, the outer end of which rests against the point of the hook N, and the other end of which enters a socket, P, formed upon the edge of the hook N, and within which is placed a coiled spring, Q, to hold the guard 0 out against the end of the said hook N.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The half-U-shaped springs K K, arranged between the upper ends of hames A A, as and for the purpose set forth.
LIBERTY JOHNSON MINTON.
