Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
HENRY w. noRREss, 0E NEW BRIGHTON, AssIGNoR To HiMsELE AND H. EATON SHERMAN, or rITTsRURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHECK-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,075, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HENRY W. BURREss,
4of New Brighton, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Check- Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in a check-hook with a spring secured tothe point of the hook, which spring opens inward, and its 'detached end resting in a recess in the head of bolt used for securing the hook to the harness.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of my specification, Figure l is a side elevation of my improvement in check-hooks. Fig.2 is an end view of the same.
My improved check-hook is made in all respects similar to the old style of check-hooks, except the spring o c, and that the end a b runs upward terminating in the scroll b and the recess g on the head of the bolt f. a a is the check-hook. c c is the spring attached to the scroll b by the rivet d, going as far round the scroll b as may be to prevent the spring from moving from si'de to side. gis the recess in the head of the bolt f, in which the lower end of the spring c c rests, whereby the detached end of the spring is safely held in position, which is desirable in case of accident. fis the bolt passing through the end e of the hooka a for the purpose of fastening the hook to the harness-saddle.
Having thus described the nature, con struction, and operation of my improvement, what I claim as 0f my invention is The check-hook a a having its spring o secured to the point b and opening inward, with a recess, g, in the head of the bolt f for the reception of the detached end of the spring, as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY W. BURRESS.
