Patented August 12, 1873.
Inventor Attbrneys.
AM PHUTO-L'IHOGRAIHIC ca Nmfnseonusls P200535.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ENOOH COVERT, OF FARMER VILLAGE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,698, dated August 12, 1873; application filed November 14, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENOOH COVERT, of FarmerVillage, in the county of Seneca and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a metallic clasp or loop for fastening the bearerstrap to the saddle of harness, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a transverse section, showing one form of my invention.
A represents the top pad or strap of a saddle for harness, and B is a part of the bearerstrap. 0 represents a semi-tubular piece of metal, provided in the center, on each side, with an ear, a. The end of the bearer-strap B is placed in this semi-tubular piece 0, with a short piece, I), of leather inthe center, as shown in Fig. 2. Screws d d are now passed through the ears a a and the pad A into a metal bar, D, underneath the pad, the tubular piece (3 thus forming a clamp or loop for fastenin g the bearer-strap.
The form or shape of this clasp may be varied in numerous ways, as well as the mode or means for. fastening the same to the pad, without departing from the spirit of my invention; and hence I do not confine myself to the particular form of clasp, nor to the mode of fastening the same, as hgein shown and described.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the semi-tubular metal plate 0 with cars a a, screws 11 d, and under plate D, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of October, 1872.
ENOOH COVERT. Witnesses:

JAMES C. KNIGHT.
