J. A. ORR.
JAGKET. No. 424. 344 Patented Mar. 25. 1890.
venZZr; We Cl, I] Wis-7 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES A. ORR, or DUBU UE, IOWA JACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,344, dated March 25, 1890. Application filed October 25,1889. Serial N0. 328,120. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. ORR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Dubuque, in the county of I) ubuque and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jackets or Jumpers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in jackets or jumpers, having for its object the provision of an extensible apron which can be folded up out of the way when not in use and the soiled portion held from contact with the body.
The invention consists of a jacket or jumper having an apron or extension and provided with fastening devices, and complemental fastening devices secured to said apron or extension, so that when the latter is folded it will be held elevated with its soiled portions concealed and out of contact with the body of the wearer, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is afront elevation of a jacket with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof. Fig. 3 is a view of a modification. Fig. 4. is a view of the jacket open with flaps folded. Fig. 5 is a similar view with the jacket closed.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a jacket or jumper (or it may be a coat and vest) designed to have its ends united at the front.
B is an apron composed of two parts or sections 1) b, which when lowered or extended are united at their inner adjacent edges 1), preferably, by buttons and holes therefor. To the inner surface of the jacket or jumper A are secured two books W, with which eyes I) of the section b are designed to engage when the apron is folded up out of the way. The manner of folding the apron is indicated in Fig. 4. Each section is diagonally folded at the dotted lines .r, and thus the normally outer faces of said sections are brought together and are so held by the hook-and-eye connections. Thus the soiled or exposed part of the apron is kept from contact with the inner clothes or body of the wearer.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a modified form of my invention, which consists in making the apron in one piece and uniting the upper edge of one-half to the jacket portion, as at C. The apron under this form is folded in a manner similar to that above described.
I claim as my invention- A jacket or jumper having an apron or extension and provided on its inner surface with fastening devices, and the complemental fastening devices secured to the inner surface of said apron, whereby when the latter is folded in the manner described said complemental fastening devices will engage said former fastening devices and hold the apron elevated with its soiled portions concealed, substantially as set forth.
JAMES A. ORR.
