Description

NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
FRANK D. RENSHAWV, OF LONG PINE, NEBRASKA.
FLANNEL SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 401,717, dated April 16, 1889..
Application filed January 5, 1889. Serial No. 295,521. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK D. RENSHAW, a cit zen of the United States, residing at Long Pine, county of Brown, State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Shirt, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the construction of the collar and cuffs of flannel or worsted shirts-that is, shirts other than the ordinary linen and muslin shirts, which are starched and ironed to make the collar and cuffs set Smooth and keep in shape.
The object of the invention consists in the below-described and claimed construction, designed to improve the appearance and comfort of the shirt.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper part of the shirt with the collar attached; Fig. 2, a broken detail of the collar, and Fig. 3 shows the cuff.
Referring to the lettered parts of the drawings, D is the shirt, and B the collar. The collar is made in any ordinary form, so far as shape is concerned. The turn-over part is Fig. 1
of the collar is composed of an outer layer of the worsted, an inner layer of muslin, c, and between these layers is a layer of buckrain, or the like, thus making the neckband part of the collar lighter, proof against shrinking, and smooth to the neck of the wearer, and facilitating the folding over of the heavier part B and adding to the comfort and appearance of the shirt. Thecuff is made with two layers of buokram, u, between the inner and outer worsted parts, 4' r, the same as the collar B, and by this means they preserve a straight and unmussed appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A shirt provided with a neckband, composed of an outer layer of Worsted, an inner layer of muslin, and buckram or the like between said layers, and a collar attached to said neckband and composed of two layers of worsted, and layers of buckram or the like between the worsted layers, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed myname in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK D. RENSllAlV.
