SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,771, dated December 10, 1889.
Application led April 29, 1889. Serial No. 808,994. (No model.)

Be it known that I, ROBERT WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grubville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Bag-Fastener, of which the following is a` specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bag-fasteners; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective View showing a bag closed and provided with my improved fastener. Fig. 2 is a detail perspectivel view of the fastener.
In carrying out my invention I employ a locking-plate, which is formed on the arc of a circle, and which is secured to the bag by any suitable means. The said plate is provided on its outer side at its upper and lower edges with the horizontal ribs B, between which the end of the spring-band passes, and these ribs ."lVhen the bag has been filled, the spring-band is drawn around the neck of the bag and the T-head at the end of the said spring engaged in the notches in the locking-plate, thereby fastening the bag, as will be readily under- It will be observed that my improved bagfastener is secured to the bag, sothat it cannot be lost and will always bein position for use. The spring-band will draw the T-head against the walls of the notches in the locking-plate, so as to form a very secure fastenand clamped within the band,so as to be perfectly closed. The ribs on the locking-plate prevent the spring-band twisting so as to disengage the T-head from the notches, and'by having a series of notches the fastener can be readily adjusted to the thickness of the neck of the bag when it is hunched.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
l. A bag-fastener consisting, essentially, of a locking-plate adapted to be secured to the bag and having a series of notches on its outer side, and a spring-band having one end secured to the said plate and provided at its free end with a T-head adapted to engage the notches in the same, as set forth.
2. A bag-fastener consisting of a lockingplate provided on its outer side with horizontal ribs having a series of notches, and a spring-band having one end secured tothe said plate and its other end passing between the horizontal ribs and provided with a T- head engaging the notches, as set forth.
