UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
PATRICK OMARRA, OF KINGSTON, NEV YORK.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,373, dated December 3, 1889.
Application filed July 26, 1889. Serial No, 318,725. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, PATRICK OMARRA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kingston, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Temporary Binder, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in temporary binders.
Heretofore catalogues have been a great expense, owing to the necessity of republishing them entirely whenever it is desired to make a change in the styles or prices, which are exceedingly uctuating.
The object of the present invention is to obviate the above objection and provide a temporary binder, whereby the sheets of a book may be readily removed and new ones be inserted to enable parts of a catalogue or book to be changed without reprinting the whole.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated on the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a book provided with the improved binders. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of t-he book, the binder being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section similar to Fig. 2.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A designates a book, consisting of a cover a and leaves a', which are arranged loosely within the cover a and designed to be held within the same by rings B. The book is provided with curved p erforations a2, which receive the rings B, that are adapted to be rotated to bring opening b opposite any desired leaf to permit the latter to be removed. By this construct-ion a leaf or leaves may be removed when it is desired to change a catalogue, and a new leaf may be inserted to till the place of the one taken out, thereby enabling changes to be iliade in catalogues without reprinting the whole, and it avoids sending out new catalogues at every change, as it is only necessary to send the new leaves, with instruction for inserting them. The inner and outer edges of the openings are beveled to` provide a slightly-Haring mouth to facilitate the removal and insertion of the leaves.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will readily be understood.
l. The combination of a book having its leaves loosely arranged within its cover, and
two rings passing through the book and pro-- vided with openings and adapted to be rotated to bring the openin gs opposite the leaves, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a book having its leaves loosely arranged within the cover and provided with curved perforations, and two rings passing through the book and having openings provided with flaring mouths, said rings being adapted to be rotated, substantially as and for the purpose described.
The herein-described temporary binder, consisting of two rings designed to be passed through a book having leaves loosely arranged within the cover and being provided with openings having a iaring mouth and being adapted to be rotated to bring the openings oppositefthe leaves, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PATRICK OMARRA. Witnesses:
